Description
Altorney PATENTED JAN. 8, 1907.
I ZNVENT OR' H JAGOBSON PEDAL OPERATING DEVICE. APPLICATION FILED MAY 21. 1906.
HENRY JACOBSON, OF PERTH AMBOY, NEW JERSEY.
PEDAL-OPERATING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 8, 1907.
Application filed May 21, 1906. Serial No- 318.010.
To all whom it WI/y concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY JAeoBsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Perth Amboy, in the county of Middlesex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pedal- Operating Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in apparatus for operating pedals of pianos, &c.; and the object of the inventionis to produce a device of this nature for use with children or ersons having short legs and who are not ab e to reach the ordinary pedals while sitting upon a piano stool or chair.
The invention comprises various details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of proved pedal-operating apparatus. is a cross-sectional view through the invention, and Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view showing the adjusting fe. ture of the device.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the top of the stool, having a raised portion A, upon which the heels of the operator would naturally rest, and B B designate the rear legs of the device, each of which is slotted, as at B, to receive a bolt F, adapted to pass through said slot and an aperture in the top of the stool. interposed between the top of each of said legs and the under surface of the top are the angled members G, which have registering slots in the top and bottom thereof and through which said bolts are adapted to pass. The forward legs (designated in the drawings by letters H H) each has an elongated slot H in the top thereof, and K designates a U-shaped member having two registering slots K in the parallel portions there 01, and N N designate bolts which pass through apertures in the top of the stool and also through registering slots in the leg-tops my im- Flg. 2
and said slots in the members K. By the provision of said members K, which have slots therein, means is afforded whereby the platform of the stool may be elevated, if desired, above the tops of the legs to adapt the device for use with children whose feet otherwise would not reach the tops of the posts if the platform rested directly upon the tops of the legs.
0 designates a bar which is bent to form a series of downwardly-depending angular outlined loops, in each of which is an aperture 0, adapted to receive a post Q, each post also being mounted in an aperture formed in the platform of the stool. A boss projects downward from the marginal edge of each aperture J and through which the post is guided in its longitudinal movements. A spring I is interposed between the platform of the stool and the head Q of each post and serves to normally hold the latter at its highest position. Fixed to the bottom of each post is a buffer L, adapted to be depressed against the pedal M of a piano.
The operation of my invention is simple and will be readily understood, as the device is adjusted so that the depressible posts will be located directly over a pedal of a piano, and the foot of the operator, resting upon the platform of the stool, may readily cause one or another of the posts to be depressed to actuate the desired pedal, and by the provision of the adjustable mechanism it will be noted that the device may be adjusted to adapt the same to various pianos.
In order to protect the piano from accidental contact of the feet of the operator with the instrument, the forward edge of the platform is upwardly turned, as seen at A l/Vhat I claim is 1. A pedal-operating apparatus comprising a stool having a series of spring-pressed posts mounted to have vertical movements therein, legs having slots in their upper ends, U-shaped slotted members interposed between the tops of the legs and the platform of the stool, bolts passing through apertures in the platform and through registering slots in said member and tops of the legs, as set forth.
2. An apparatus for operating pedals comprising a stool having its forward end upwardly turned with a depressed portion intermediate said upturned part and the rear of the top of the stool, an angled bar forming a series of loops, each of which is apertured, I In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my fastened info the1 linder surface of the top of signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
t e stoo pe a -operating posts passing through registering apertures in said stool HENRY JACOBSON 5 and loops, and a spring interposed between the top ;-0f the stool and the head of each post, as set forth.
Witnesses:
