UNTTnn STATES PATENT @Trina ABRAM B. 'SVVOPE OF LEBANON, PENNSYLVANIA.
CIGAR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 489,397, dated January 3, 1893. Application led November 9, 1892. Serial No. 451,440. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, ABRAM B. Sworn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lebanon, in the county of Lebanon and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigars; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains te make and usen the same.
My present invention relates to cigars and has for its object certain improvements in construction whereby a cigar may be readily lighted.
The invention will be fully disclosed in the following specification and claims.
In the accompanying drawings which form part of this specification, Figure l represents a vertical longitudinalsection of my improved cigar. Fig. 2 is a like View showing a modification, and Fig. 3 a side elevation.
Reference being had to the drawings and the letters thereon A indicates a cigar composed of a wrapper a, a binder b, and a filler c, the latter extending beyond the tuck end d of the cigar in the form of a body of flimsy or unpacked material e that will ignite readily, and is secured in the cigar by the binder and the wrapper.
In Fig. 2 I have shown the igniting material made of short pieces of leaf tobacco engaging the tuck end of the filler and forming a homogeneous part thereof, which is secured in the end of the cigar by the binder and the wrapper and forms an integral part of the cigar in its manufacture.
suggested tov be applied to the ends of cigars by inserting them in the tuck end of the cigar after the cigar has been finished, some of which have been treated with chemicals to cause them to ignite readily. By my invention the igniting material is preferably made a part of the filler of the cigar and thereby avoids the use of any foreign substance to produce an unpleasant taste or odor.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim is:-
l. An improved article of manufacture, a cigar having a body of tobacco extending beyond the tuck end of the cigar and secured by the wrapper.
2. An improved article of manufacture, a cigar having the ller extending beyond the wrapper at the tuck end of the cigar and secured by the Wrapper.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ABRAM B. SI/VOPE.
