BELT FOR woMENs UNDERGARMENTS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 488,886, dated December 27, 1892.

To all whom it may concern,.-

Be it known that I, MARTHA C. GELDOW- SKY, of the city of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Belts for Womens Undergarments, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.

My invention relates to improvements in belts for suspending undergarments, and consists in the novel arrangement and combination of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and designated in the claim.

In the drawings-Figure l is a perspective view of a belt embodying my invention,parts being broken away to show the construction. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the belt. Fig. 3 is a vertical cross-section, taken on the line oc-x of Fig. 2.

The object of my invention is to employ but one belt to which the several undergarments worn by Women are adapted to be removably attached, wherebythe employment o f a belt for each garment is dispensed with, and the waist of the wearer greatly reduced in size. Furthermore, by the use of my invention all the garments desired to be worn may be placed in position upon the person at one time and very quickly, dispensing with the tedious laborof putting on each garment separately.

Referring to the drawings, l designates a yoke belt which is pointed at front as shown at 2 and rounded at the back, and the ends of the said belt provided with buttons and button holes for uniting the said belt about the Waist of the wearer.

3 designates a flap which is secured to the upper edge of the belt and conforms in outline to the shape of the belt 1,the upper edge of said flap being secured to the upper edge of the belt by stitching or in any other suitable manner. The iiap 3 is of less breadth than the belt and when united to the latter terminates above the lower edge of the same.

To the belt l, near its lower edge, are secured any desired number of buttons, 4, or other suitable fastening devices, which are arranged at regular intervals, said fastening devices being normally overlapped by the ap 3.

The advantages of my improved belt will be readily understood by those skilled in the art to which it appertains. The undergarments used in connection with my improved belt may be of anypreferred or adopted pattern, said garments being separately or collectively attached to the fastening devices carried by the belt.

From the foregoing description, it will be apparent that all the undergarments necessary may be suspended from the single belt, and all that is necessary is to step into said garments and fasten the belt about the waist without any further manipulation on the part of the wearer. It will also be obvious that there -is no unnecessary loss of time in dressing, and the old-fashioned way of throwing some of the undergarments over the head is entirely dispensed with.

I claim as my invention- The herein-described belt for undergarments, consisting of a belt proper provided upon its outer face with suspending devices, and a flap depending from the upper edge of the belt proper and overlapping said suspending devices, said flap terminating above the lower edge of the belt proper; substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
