Description

(No Model.) W. B. FOSDIGK. BELT- No. 534,256. Patented Feb. 19, 1895.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
IVILLIAM BERRY F OSDICK, OF NEW YORK, N. .Y.
BELT."
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 534,256, dated February 19, 1895. Application filed October 4,1894- Serial No. 524,853. (No model.) I
This invention relates to belts or attachments therefor, and has for itsobject to provide a simple, cheap, readily constructed and perfectly operating means whereby the belt may be prevented from slipping upwardly or downwardly.
This invention consists of a belt having upon its inner face two longitudinal strips extending throughout the length of the belt, one of said strips being secured at each edge thereof and free at their adjacent edges,
whereby they may receive between them and the body of the belt, the Suspender buttons on the trousers I In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the belt embodying my invention. Fig. 2 illustrates the same inposition upon the garments of the person wearin gthe belt. Fig. 3 is a section taken through the belt and the garment beneath upon the line 00-01:, Fig. 2. i
In the practice of my invention, I form the belt A in the usual or any other approved shape or style, having secured thereon vthe buckle B and retaining loop G. I
Upon the interior of the belt, at the upper and lower edges thereof, I secure continuous longitudinal strips D, preferably sewed thereon as shown, and extending toward the middle of the'belt, but not meeting. These flanges are formed of stifiened material, as semi-rigid fabric, in order to be just sufficiently unyieldin gnot to bend double, or slip off the buttons, while at the same time conforming, with the belt, to the shape of the waist and motions of the wearer.
In operation, the belt is placed upon the person, immediately at the top of the trousers, or similar garment, and the strips inserted beneath each button of the garment upon the upper and lower sides thereof and the flanges not meeting each other, space is left for the presence of the shank of "the button. The belt is thus held upon the trousers, and being freeto move laterally, it can be fastened in position, and thereafter be tightened or loosened, very readily. Moreover, it will be readilyappreeiated that I may make the belt proper, or the strips, or both of any of a variety of materials, without departing in any way from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, [what I claim as new, and'desire. to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A belt comprising a strip of fabric ofconstant width having a longitudinalstrip of fabric secured to each edge on the inner face to the belt, said longitudinal strips being free-at their adjacent edges and extending throughout the length of the belt, whereby the belt may lie against the waist-band of a pair of trousers to receive the heads of all buttons thereon and support the trousers. v
Intestimony that I claim the foregoingas 7; my invention I have signed my name, in presence of two witnesses, this 1st day of October,
WILLIAM BERRY FQSDIOK.
