To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, ELLEN DONNELLY, of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Garment-Forms, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention relates to an improvementin garment forms, and has for its object to construct a form provided with a filling which will render the form more or less elastic or yielding, and to provide the form with a supporting structure of asimpler character which will maintain the body of the form atall times in a proper upright position, and which will act as a support for the arms of the form,enablin'g the arms to be manipulated in like manner as a human arm.

It is afurther object of the invention to construct the form in a manner which will cause it to be an exact reproduction of thebust figure in which similar figures of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the complete form; Fig. 2 is a section taken practically through the form; and Figs. 3 and 4 are detail views of the members utilized in the formation of an arm.

It is the prime object of this invention to provide a garment form which will be an exact reproduction of the human figureitisintended to represent, and toprovide the form with arms of equal length with those of the figure the form is adapted to simulate, and to providefor a surface yielding of the body of the figure and a movement of the arms approximating the movement of the human arm.

The figure is intended to be a bust figure only, embracing the upper portion of the body and the hips; and the entire figure is provided with a filling which will allow it to be compressed to a certain extent, and which will, when pressure is removed, be restored to the normal outline of the form,and by this means to provide a garment form upon which a corset may be fitted, said corset fitting the body of the person which the form simulates, admitting thereby of agarment being fitted over the corset upon the form in like manner as it can be fitted upon the human figure, thus insuring the perfect fit of the garment.

In carrying out the details of the invention, measurements are taken of the body, including the hips and the arms, and a proper casing 10, of any suitable material, such as strong fabric, is made in conformity with the measurements. By this means a garment is obtained which will, when properly inflated, truly represent that portion of the human form for which the measurements were taken. The lower portion of the casing is left open, and it is tacked or secured in any approved manner to abase plate or board 11. The upper or collar portion of the casing is left open. Upon the central portion of the base plate or board 11, an upright 12, is secured. .This upright, in the interest of lightness, is preferably made tubular, as illustrated in Fig. 2, and is screwed at its lower end into a socket 13, located upon the upper face of the board. The upper end of the standard 12, is attached in any suitable or approved manner to a cross bar 14, preferably at the center of the latter; and the cross bar and the standard approximate somewhat the shape of the letter T, and the ends of the cross bar reach to about the junction of the arms of the casing with the bodythereof. The extremities of the cross bar are concaved to receive the arm forms or members 15 and 16. These two members are preferably made of unequal length, the upper member 15 being longer than the lower one 16, and they are made tapering. The upper member 15, is provided with a cylindrical head 17, adapted to fit in the socket of the cross bar; and the lower end of this member has a socket 18, produced therein, adapted to receive the cylindrical head 19 of the lower member 16, and at its lower end the latter member is provided with a disk or button 20, to which the fabric at the lower ends of the arms may be through all of the arm sections and through the cross bar 14, the elastic being secured in any desired manner to the lower portion of the lower arm sections, as is clearly shown in Fig. 2. This having been accomplished the entire casing is preferably filled with sawdust, bran, or like material, and cotton mixed in suitable quantities. The cotton and bran or saw-dust, when utilized, render the form not only yielding but more or less elastic and a better shape is preserved,as if bran or sawdust or a like material be the only material employed for the filling, a proper outline of the casing is hard to preserve when the form is subjected to pressure, as from corsets, for instance.
