Description
Patented Aug. 6, I90L 0. RUDOLF. SEAT (Application filed Mm" 20, 1901.)
(No Model.)
mi awe? THE NOR IS FEYERS PHOTO LIT-HO WASHING N D C UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES RUDOLF, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
SEAT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 679,915, dated August 6, 1901.
Application filed March 20, 1901. Serial No. 51,998. (No model.)
T0 at whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES RUDOLF, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chi cago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Seats, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to seats or cushions. Its object is to provide a simple seat capable of rendering comfortable objects or means adapted for sitting, especially the means for sitting provided for spectators of athletic games and other exhibitions in places of amusement and exposition, which means c0n= sist in great measure of plain boards erected into stands; and popularly termed bleachers, and its further object is to provide a comfortable seat capable of being contracted into a compact and comparatively smallbulk which can easily be carried from place to place Without causing embarrassment or inconvenience to the bearer, at the same time retaining its ability for giving comfort as a seat at any desired instant.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this application, and in which similar letters refer to similar'parts.
Figure l is a plan view of seat when ready for use. on the line 3 4, and Fig. 3 is asectional view of Fig. 1 on the line 1 2. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the seat compactly folded when not in use.
A and A represent two cushions or semicushions adapted to afford support, respectively, to the right and left buttocks of a person. Said cushions or semicushions may be constructed of any form and of any material of which cushions are ordinarily made or of woven wire, elastic metals, or of collapsible sacks capable of beinginflated by compressed air or gas.
B and B represent bases ofthe cushions or semicushions A and A, respectively, and are firmly attached thereto and are preferably made of a stifi material, such as cardboard, sheet metal, 850.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view of Fig. 1
0 represents flexible means connecting the adjacent edges of the cushions or semicush ions A and A and attached thereto, the material represented in the drawings being of textile fabric or rubber; but hinges of metal or other material may be used for this purpose, its object being to allow of folding the cushions or semicushions A A one on the other into contiguous position and in such manner as to make an object of compact form, as shown in Fig. 4. It is my intention to also construct the connecting means 0 so as to allow of disconnecting the cushions or semi cushions A A from one another in order that they may be carried separately.
D and E represent the parts of a clasp or means firmly attached, respectively, to the non=adjacent edges of the cushions or semicushions A A, the object of which is to hold said cushions or semicushions in compact contiguous position, as shown in Fig. 4, and the parts of which may be made of any form or of any material adapted for the purpose specified.
I do not confine myself to form, shape, or
size shown in the drawings, as it is obvious that these properties can be varied infinitely.
Connected with the use of my invention as a seat I intend it to serve also for advertising purposes.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure byLetters Patent, is-- A seat consisting of two cushions for the support respectively of the right andleft buttocks of a person, each of said cushions provided with a base, flexible means connecting said cushions, whereby said cushions are brought into contiguous position, and clasping means whereby said cushions are held in compact contiguous position, substantially as described and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHARLES RUDOLF.
