Description
NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT A. THOMPSON, OF LEADVILLE, COLORADO.
FILE FOR BILLS, PERIODICALS, 80C.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 485,514, dated November 1, 1892. Application filed May 27, 1892. Serial No. 434,605. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT A. THOMPSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Leadville, in the county of Lake and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Files for Bills, Periodicals, 85e.; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of theinvention, such as will enable Others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention has relation to improvements in tiles for bills, periodicals, &c.; and it consists in the peculiar construction, certain novel combinations, and the adaptation of parts hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims appended.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of my improved file. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a section taken in the plane of the dotted line .fr of Fig. 2, looking forwardly.
Referring by letters to the said drawings, A indicates the main frame of my improved file, which is preferably of a general triangular form, as shown, and preferably comprises the basebar B, the upwardly-converging bars O, which are connected together and are designed to be hung upon a nail or the like, and the cross-bar D, as illustrated.
Connected to and extending forwardly from the base-bar B at suitable intervals in the length thereof are pins E, which preferably4 have their ends sharpened, whereby bills, papers, and the like may be readily mounted upon the same.
Flexibly connected to and extending forwardly from the bar D are parallel arms F, to the forward ends of which is connected the depending vertically-disposed frame G, the lower bar H of which is slotted, as better illustrated in Fig. 3 of the drawings, to seat the pointed ends of the pins E.
M indicates a bail-spring, which has its ends suitably connected to the cross-bar D and is connected to and bears upon the upper bar of the frame G, so as to normally hold the base-bar H of said framein engagement with the pins E, and thereby prevent a casual removal of the bills, papers, dac., from said pins.
From the foregoing description, taken in conjunction with the drawings, it will be readily perceived that in order to place bills, papers, or the like upon the pins E it is simply necessaryvto raise the frame G, which, when pressure is removed, will, by reason of the spring M, return to its normal position and effectually prevent a casual removal of the bills, dac., from the pins.
Although I have specifically described the form and construction of' my improved file, I do not desire to be confined to the same, as such changes or modifications may be made as fairly fall within the scope of my invention.
In practice it is obvious that when desired a number of files of the construction described may be employed in conjunction with a single main frame.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. In a bill and paper file, substantially as described, the combination, with the main frame and a series of forwardly-extending pins, of the vertically-disposed frame, arms iixedly connected to said frame and flexibly connected to the main frame, and a spring connected to the main frame and bearing upon the vertically-disposed frame, substantially as specified. l
2. In a bill and paper file, substantially as described, the combination, with the main frame and a series of forwardly-extending pins, of the vertically-disposed frame having slots to seat the ends of the pins, arms xedly connected to said frame and flexibly connected to the main frame, and a bail-spring connected tO the main frame and bearing upon the vertically-disposed frame, substantially as and for the purpose set forth. v
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.-
ALBERT A. THOMPSON.
Witnesses:
