I PAPER-FILE.
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, OLAF OLSEN, a subject of the King of Norway, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Paper-Files, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to files, and more particularly to the class of paper files for office use. I
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a file of this character wherein any number of papers can be readily and conveniently placed thereon for safe keeping, and a particular paper may be readily and quickly removed therefrom irrespective of the position of the same within the mass or stack held upon the file.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a file of this character wherein the construction thereof is of novel form to permit the holding of papers in order thereon and the convenient removal of any one of the papers therefrom when the occasion requires.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a file of this character which is simple in construction, reliable and efficient in operation, strong, durable, and inexpensive in manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts: as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawing:Figure 1 is a perspective view of a file constructed in accordance with the inventionf Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view thereof. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig- 2.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, A designates a base, which is in the form of a weight, provided in its bottom face with a channel or groove 5, and opening through the upper face centrally thereof is a perforation or hole 6 which communicates with the channel or groove 5, the latter, and the perforation or hole G'being designed to permit the detachable mounting thereon of the file frame hereinafter fully described.
The file frame comprises a single strand Specification of Letters Patent. 7 Patented Dec, 21, 1915, 7 Application filed March 2, 19151 Serial No. 11,518. i
of resilient wire 7, which is bent into loop I form with the inwardly extending front and rear portions 8 and 9, respectively, and the upstanding nib 10 at the bottom portion of the said frame, the nib being designed to be inserted in the perforation or hole 6, while the lower stretch of the said loop will become seated in the channel or groove 5, thereby connecting the frame and base together so that the file will be supported when at rest upon a table, desk, or other suitable support.
The wire forming the loop, at a point ap proximate the inwardly extending front portion 8, is diagonally cut to form closely arranged bills 11 which coact with each other for the insertion and removal of papers in and from the frame for the hanging of such papers on the loop or their removal therefrom as the occasion may require.
It will be apparent that should it be desired to remove a particular paper from the stack or mass on the file, and such paper be between the uppermost and lowermost sheets of the stack or mass, it is only necessary to raise the uppermost sheets of paper on the loop above the inwardly extended front portion 8, thereby exposing the paper to be removed from the stack, whereupon it is extracted from between the bills 11 at the point of the split or separation in the frame of the file, the bills being spread apart for this purpose, and also for the fastening of a sheet of paper on the file.
It is of course to be understood that more than one of the frames or loops may be employed for the fastening of papers against twisting or displacement in a stack or mass, as will be clearly apparent.
i From the fore oin it is thought that the construction and o eration of the device will be clearlv understood, and therefore a more extended explanation has been omitted.
What is claimed is 1. A file comprising a base, a resilient wire frame bent into loop form and having front and rear contracted portions at an intermediate point thereof and also an upstanding nib for engagement in the base, the said wire being separated at a point below the front contracted portion to form separable bills.
2. A file comprising a base, a resilient wire frame bent into loop form and having front and rear contraotedi poirtionsrat 'theniblfor ith e" fastenifigw of the loop and intermediate point thereof and also an upbase' togethen- V 10 standing nib for engagement in thebase-,,the 3 In testimony, whereof I- affix my signature said Wire being separated at a point below in presenoeof two Witnesses.
