SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 484,292, dated October 11, 1892. Application filed February 17, 1892- Serial No. 421,859. (No model To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALEXANDER 0. BROWN, of the city and county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented an Improvement in Book or Music-Leaf Holders; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.

My invention relates to the class of devices adapted for facilitating the turning over of leaves of music; and my invention consists of a clamp-plate adapted to be readily attached to the edge of the leaf and a finger-catch ring carried by the plate.

My invention further consists in the peculiarity of the attachment of said ring to the clamp-plate, whereby the ring will remain in a position in which it can be most readily engaged by the finger to turn over the leaf.

The object of my invention is to provide a simple device for this purpose adapted to be readily secured in place and to be handled with facility.

Referring to the accompanying drawings for a more complete explanation of my invention, Figure 1 is a perspective View of my music-leaf holder. Fig. 2 is a view showing its application to the leaf.

A is a clamp-plate formed of a single sheet of metal bent centrally so that its sides will lie closely together, except at their ends, where they flare or separate slightly toprovide for receiving the music-leaf. The bent center of the plate forms a shank or stem at, provided with a rivet a, forming at the bend of the plate a socket, in which is fitted and pivoted the finger-catch ring B. On the end of the shank at each side is formed a shoulder b, the object of which is to prevent the catch-ring from turning any farther toward the plate on either side than to a positionat right angles, this being effected by reason of the ring, when turned to such positions on either side, comin g in contact with said shoulders, whereby it will be stopped.

In Fig. 2, which shows the application of the device, C is the music-leaf. To the edge of this in a convenient position the clamp-plate A is fitted, its sides passing over, embracing, and fitting closely to the leaf, so that the de vice is held suspended by and projecting from the leaf. In this position the catch-ring B stands ready to be quickly, accurately, and easily engaged by the finger of the performer, whereupon the leaf can be properly turned. The limitation above described upon the movement of the ring in its seat prevents the ring from lying down close to the plate, in which position it could not be readily and quickly caught; but as constructed the most convenient position of the ring is insured.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A music-leaf holder consisting of a plate having clamping sides and end socket and a ring pivotally held in said socket and serving as a finger-catch, substantially as herein described.

2. A music-leaf holder consisting of the plate bent centrally so that its sides form a clamp for engaging the leaf, and a ring pivoted in the bent end of the plate and serving as a finger-catch, substantially as described.

3. A music-leaf holder consisting of the plate bent centrally so that its sides form a clamp for engaging the leaf, a rivet in the plate near its bent end and forming a socket therein, and a ring pivoted in said bent end and serving as a finger-catch, substantially as described.

4. A music-leaf holder consisting of the plate bent centrally so that its sides form a clamp for engaging the leaf, said plate having at its bent endthe shoulders I), and the finger-catch ring pivoted in the bent end of the plate and limited in its movement by the shoulders, substantially as described.
