UNITED STATES @PATENT OFFICE.
IVILLIAM IV. HORNBERGER AND LUORETIA J. LANGEAY, OF COLUMBIA, MISSOURI.
TlDY-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 463,681, dated November 24, 1891.
Application filed May 11, 1891, Serial No. 392,340. (No specimens.)
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that we, WILLIAM W. HORN- BERGER and LUCRETIA J. LANGEAY, of Oolumbia, in the county of Boone and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tidy-Holders; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as Will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
Our invention relates to an improvement in tidy-holders, its object being to produce a tidy-holder which shall be of simple construction and effectual in the performance of its functions.
A further object is to construct the device in such manner that it may be readily applied to a chair for holding a tidy thereon, and that when so applied but a very small portion of the device will be exposed to view.
lVith these objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction and combination and arrangements of parts, as hereinafter set forth, and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a view of a chair having a tidy thereon held by our improved holder. Fig. 2 is a separate view of the holder.
A represents the back of a chair, having a tidy B thereon and held by our improved holder C. The holder C is made of a single piece of brass or other suitable wire and comprises a body or connecting portion a, which may be curved, if desired, and loops b b, extending from the body or connecting portion The loops b comprise two arms c d, the wire composi'ng the arms c being bent at a point between its ends to produce coiled springs e. W'ith the device constructed in this manner it is placed on the back of a chair so that the curved portions j' of the loops b will lie upon the top edge of ,the back of the chair and the arms CZ lie iat against the tidy to be held. Thus it will be seen that the tidy Will be held firmly to the back of the chair, and that the connecting or body portion a and the springs e will be against the rear portion of the chair-back, and consequently hid from view. The device thus constructed is very simple, easy to manufacture7 and effectual in the performance of its functions.
Having fully described our invention, what We claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As an article of manufacture, a tidy-holder composed of wire bent into shape to form two pairs of arms c and d, adapted to embrace the front andk rear faces of a chair-back at suitable distances apart, a connecting portion joining arms c, spiral springs located approximately in the middle of vthe rear arms and extending rearwardly from and at approximately right angles to the opposite end of these arms, and loops extending from the upper ends of arms cl to the rear ends of spiral springs, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof we have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
