Patented Sept. 27, 1892.:
WITNESSES 7 %L47 12 .2.
INVENTOR jaw/MW UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN HARBOLSHEIMER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
GARBAGE-BOX.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 483,492, dated September 2'7, 1892.
Application filed April 13 1892. Serial No. 429,060. (No model.)
To on whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN HARBOLSHEIMER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improvement in Garbage-Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a box, located on the inside of the yard-fence, to which access may be had from the outside to permit the removal of the contents, the box being supported by trunnions in slotted brackets, permitting a back-and-forth movement, by which it is possible to empty it without soiling the fence.
In the accompanying drawings, the same letters refer to the same parts.
Figure 1 shows a vertical cross-section; and Fig. 2 is a view from the outside of the fence, showing the box upturned.
A is the box, which is preferably made of galvanized iron, having the trunnions a, a, which rest in slots of the brackets B B.
O is the cover, which is hinged to the brackets and rises as the box is upturned, as shown in Fig. 1.
D is the fence, to which the brackets are secured, and d is a door to close the aperture for the removal of the contents of the box.
The operation is as follows: The collector places his bucket below the aperture in the fence, and, opening the door (1, draws the box outward by means of the handle a and upturns it, as shown by the dotted lines in Fig. i. It will be seen that by this arrangement no garbage will come into contact with the fence. To overcome the friction of the trunnions in the slots, they may have small rollers placed on them.
The box may be inclosed in a portable cabinet instead of being secured to the fence.
I claim as my invention- A garbagebox normally located back of the discharging-aperture, supported by trunnions at or near its center of weight, and resting on rails, so as to permit it to be drawn into said aperture and then inverted.
JOHN HARBOLSHEIMER.
