Description

(No Model.)
J. H. PRUTZMAN.
TROUSERS SHIELD.
No. 483,164. Patented Sept. 27, 1892.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN H. PRUTZMAN, OF PLANKTNTON, SOUTH DAKOTA.
TROUSERS-SHIELD.
$PEGIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 483,164, dated September 27, 1892.
Application filed June 13, 1892| To ctZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN H. PRUTZMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Plankinton, in the county of Aurora and State of South Dakota, have invented a new and useful Trousers-Shield, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in trousers-shields; and it consists of the construction and arrangement of the parts thereof, as will be more fully hereinafter described and claimed.
. The object of this invention is to provide simple and convenient means for shielding or covering parts of trousers to prevent the same from becoming stained or discolored, and also to act as a reinforce therefor and as a cover for the several seams over which the device is placed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a pair of trousers, showing the improved device in connection therewith. Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line w a; of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail plan view of the improved device detached.
Similar numerals of reference are employed to designate corresponding parts in the several views.
Referring to the drawings, the numerals 1 and 2 designate the opposite sides of the shield, which is of substantial heart form with round ed corners and having an opening 3, extending thereinto, adapted to be fitted over that portion of the trousers which is left open and adapted to be buttoned. The shield may be made of india-rubber or any suitable material which is not porous and is waterproof, and it may be lined with muslin or jersey or any other suitable material. The edges of the same are also protected by a suitable binding, and the upper corners of the shield are adapted to be rounded.
The device is intended to protect the garment from staining or discoloring, and will also give great strength to said garment by tlerial No. 436,6 11. (No model.)-
being applied over the cross-seams, and thereby act as a stay and prevent ripping of the same.
It is obviously apparent that the device may be made in various sizes and, as has already been stated, of any suitable material.
It will be seen that the shield is of heart shape and the opposite portions thereof cover the portions of the trousers which will come in contact with the testicles, and that the upper portion of the opening 3 converges to permit the opposite side portions of the shield to lie close together.
The shield is located when applied at the lower terminating portion of the fly of trousers, with the point thereof extending downward toward the crotch and the upper portions extending upward some distance on each side of the fiy-opening. This arrangement avoids permeation of the trousers by prespiration or other matter at the point designated.
The device when applied is not discernible from the exterior and does not make a bulky thickness where applied.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As an improved article of manufacture, a shield for trousers, adapted to be applied at the lower portion of the fly, and consisting of a heart-shaped piece of moisture-proof material having an opening between the oppositelylocated duplicate portions, provided with an upper converged portion, and the device entire provided with an edge binding of tape, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto aifixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN H. PRUTZMAN.
