UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWIN STEWART, OF ALBION, ILLINOIS.
RIBBON AND SHOW CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 483,024, dated September 20, 1892.
Application filed October 31, 1891. Serial No. 410,499. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be itknown that I, EDWIN STEWART, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Albion, in the county of Edwards and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ribbon and Show Cases, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My improved combined ribbon and show case is designed not only to exhibit such articles, but to render them conveniently accessible for selecting and sale examination; and the invention consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of the parts, substantially as hereinafter described, and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective View of my improved show-case, the doors also being shown in dotted lines as standing open. Fig. 1 is a broken detail bottom view showing more particularly one of the doors. Figs. 2 and 3 are front and sectional views of the show-case,respectively; and Fig. 4. is a cross-section'thereof. Fig. 5 is a broken detached perspective view of one of the doors.
In constructing my combination ribbon and show case the frame A is provided with two glass windows a a and the two glass doors I) b, the glass doors being hinged at b and provided with casters 1) upon which they partly rest, to permit the sides of the showcase being thrown open.
In frameAis pivotally secured the vertical hexagonal reel 0, which is provided with the dowel-pin d, inserted in the corresponding thllllblG-SOOkG'G d, disposed in the bottom of the fra1ne',in which it freely revolves. In the top and center of the frame is provided pin e to hold the reel steadfastly in position, the said pin being adapted to freely rotate in the corresponding socket e. The glass windows a a and the glass doors b b are arranged to slide out from their respective frames in or der to admit the removal without handling or removing the ribbons.
To the vertical reel 0 is secured, spacedapart, a number of corresponding wire basket-like receptacles B, which are designed for holding the articles convenient for inspection. These consist of strands of wire f, each strand be ing formed into six receptacles, as aforesaid, and having the loops f, which are slid down upon the headed pins f" for securing them upon the hexagonal reel. These strands of wire f have also twisted thereon the encircling strands g, which serve to strengthen and hold the receptacles B rigidly in position.
Receptacles D, like receptacles B, consist of wire strands, eachhaving an inner and an outer frame-arm f the wire being bent into concave form at the lateral ends of the receptacle, as shown, which is secured upon the pins f by eyes or loops f These receptacles may be employed for exhibiting hats, ribbons, and other articles, more especially of ladies wear. In addition to the above means for displaying articles in the show-case the horizontal strands of wire are inserted at each end in orifices in the opposite walls of one of the doors and are retained rigidly in position by means of the standard h, which is recessed at h for reception of the strands. Thus a person passing to one side of the showcase when it is closed mayobserve certain articles or goods unseen on the other side of the case, where different articles are exposed.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim The show-case provided with a series of basket-like receptacles, each consisting of a single strand of wire formed in a number of bail-like bends and intermediate loops slipped upon pins projecting from supports within the case, and means to hold said receptacles firmly in position upon their supports, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof Iaftix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EDWIN STEIVART.
