ANTON SOHOLZ, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
GAME APPARATUS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 481,830, dated August 30, 1892.
Application filed May 6, 1892. Serial No. 431,998. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTON SCHOLZ, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Game Apparatus, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide an apparatus which is simple and durable in construction and adapted to be employed in conjunction with an ordinary spinning-top, the game to be played therewith affording great amusement, and at the same time requiring some skill to play it.
The invention consists of certain parts and details and combinations of the same, as will be hereinafter described, and then pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improvement as used. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same, the top being removed; and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a modified form of the improvement.
The improved game apparatus is provided with a plate A, preferably made circular and formed in its center with an opening B, the edge of which forms a seat for the top 0 of the usual construction, the body of the top being provided near the base end with nu merals or other characters D, as shown in Fig. 1. The plate A is formed with a handle E, adapted to be taken hold of by the player, so as to manipulate the plate A for getting the spinning-top G into its seat in the opening B. From the handleE extends a pointer F, adapted to indicate on one of the characters D on the top 0 as soon as the latter is at rest in its seat B in the plate A.
The device is used as follows: The top C is spun in the usual manner on the fioor or other support, and then the operator takes hold of the device by the handle E and moves the plate A under the point of the top, so that the latter passes upon the plate and is finally seated in the opening B. As the operator lifts the top off the ground or floor, the top finally comes to a rest in its seat, and the pointer F indicates a numeral or other sign character, thus showing how many points are made. The next player does the same, and the one counting the highest points is the winner.
As shown in Fig. 3, the plate A is marked with numerals arranged around the seat B and the pointer F is marked on the top. This device is used in the same manner as the one previously described-that is, the pointer F indicates on one of the numerals on the plate A after the top has come to a state of rest in its seat on the said plate.
It will be seen that this game affords great amusement, and at the sametime requires considerable skill to play it successfully.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A game apparatus provided with a handled plate having a central aperture forming a seat for a spinning-top, substantially as shown and described.
2. A game apparatus comprising a handled plate having a central aperture forming a seat for the spinning-top and an indicating device, substantially as described, for indicating the position of rest of the top in the said seat, substantially as set forth.
3. Agame apparatus provided with a plate having a central aperture forming a seat for a spinning-top, a handle extending from the said plate, and a pointer held on the said handle and adapted to indicate on characters formed on the body of the spinning-top, substantially as shown and described.
4. In a game apparatus, the combination, with a spinning-top provided with characters on its body, of a handled plate having a central aperture forming a seat for the said top and a pointer held on the said plate and adapted to indicate on the characters on the top, substantially as shown and described.
ANTON SOI-IOLZ.
