SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 648,164, dated April 24, 1900.

Application filed October 25, 1899. Serial No. 734,790. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, DENNIS L. FALARDEAU, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Albany, in the county of Albany and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Games; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and ex-- act description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

The invention has relation to means of amusement or games; and it consists in thenovel construction and combinations of parts, as hereinafter set forth. It is designed to provide indoor amusement, being somewhat of the character of pool or billiards, but without the costly appurtenances of those games. In the accompanying drawings, the letter A designates a disk having around its circumferential portion a track B of circular form.

0 indicates the center pivot, which is usually provided with a threaded lower end, as it is designed to be removable from the disk A when the illustrated circular dial-sheets D are to be changed. These dial-sheets cover the floor of the circular ball-pen E, whichis immediately around the center pivot and is bounded by the circular rise or wall F, which is provided with a ratchet K of pin or tooth form and with concave seats for the counting or marking balls at a, which arenumbered in accordance with correspondin gly-placed nu rnbers on the dial-sheet D.

Between the track B and the rise or wall F is a circular interval, which is subdivided into compartments 1) b, which are numbered and are designed each to belong to a player and to hold for this player the balls a which he ob'tainsfiin his play.

Pivoted on the center pin 0 are the arms 9 and h of the play-balls G and H, the former being the cue-ball and the latter the spot or object ball. These arms g and h carry the balls G and H, journaled on their outer ends in position to roll on the circular track B, and they have extensions g and h on the opposite side of the center pivot, which are provided with adjustable counterweights to counterbalance the weight of the balls and reduce friction. To this end also the pivotal portions of the arms g and h may be provided with ball-bearings.

The extension h of the arm of the objectball is provided with a yielding tongue or panel Z, designed to move in easy contact with the teeth or pins of the circular ratchet K. As these teeth or pins are numbered, the point of stoppage of the object-ball is easily noted.

71. 0f the object-ball stops over the number of any counting-ball a. These counting-balls may bear different colors as well as numbers, three or four colors being,however,sufficient.

The play-balls Grand H are at the same ra dial distance from the center, and the play is made by striking the cue-ball G with a one or mallet, causing it to roll around the track and strike the object-ball H, causing the latter ball to roll around the track for a distance which depends on the force of impact. In playing the game, therefore, practice is required in order to attain skill in regulating the force of the original stroke. Some friction is therefore desirable, and this is attained by using a track for the balls to roll upon.

I usually provide in connection with this game a central standard L, with cross-arms Z and button-markers Z for use when the game is played for color balls, as in billiards or pool.

Sometimes the outer track may be dispensed with and the device made in heavier proportions to rest directly upon the floor. In this case the balls should be larger and adapted to be struck with mallets as in croquet.

It is apparent that the counting-balls may so, also, it is easily noted if the indicator-arm be placed in a different position With relation to the center pivot, as may the ratchet device, without departing from the principle of the game.

In order to keep the marking-balls from being lost, as well as to preserve the apparatus in good order when not in use, I provide a cover I, which incloses the central portion.

Having described this invention, What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,

1. The game, comprising the circular track, the center pivoted arms of the cue-ball and object-ball, the pivoted cue-ball and objectball, and indicating devices, substantially as specified.

2. The game, comprising the disk, its center pivot ratchet device and seats for the counting-balls, the center pivoted arms of the play-balls, the pivoted cue-ball, and the pivoted object-ball at the same radial distance from the center, and the indicator exter pivot and circular track, the ratchet device and seats for the counting-balls, the center pivoted arms of the play-balls, the pivoted cue and object balls and the indicator extension of the arm of the object-ball, substantially as specified.

4. The game, comprising the disk, its center pivot and ratchet device, and seats for the counting-balls, the center pivoted arms of the play-balls, and their adjustable counter- Weights, the play-balls pivoted on said arms and the indicator extension of the arm of the object-ball, substantially as specified.
