GAME-BOARD.
SPECIFICBATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 497,908, dated May 23, 1893.
Application filed June 29, 1892. Serial No. 438,435- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHN B. DAVIDS,a citizen of the United States, residing at North Dart-month,in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Game-Boards, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to apparatus for playing the game known as tivoli.
The accompanying drawings illustrate my invention, in which- Figure 1. is a plan view of my improved game board. Fig. 2. is a side view of the same, showing a part of the side broken away, in order to show the construction of one of the peculiar features; and Fig. 3. is a side View of the device for propelling a ball. Similar letters and figures refer to similar parts, in the several views.
a, represents the board, having a curved top and a raised edge cl, around its outside and n, is the spiral spring in, adapted to throw the bar 2, suddenly forward when the handle K is drawn backward and released. The device c, is so placed, that the handle 70, shall be wholly within the outer line of conformation of the board.
f is an arm, hinged to the center of the raised edge d, at the upper end of the board, in such a manner as to have a vertical movement, and having the concaved end g, adapted to partly envelop a ball resting on the surface of the board, and lightly hold it in position by means of its gravity.
The surface of the board, between the raised edges e, and e, is provided with the cup shaped depressions 20, 25, 30, and 50, and bafiie pins, set in diagonal rows; and at the lower end, are stalls, formed by short raised edges.
The game is played with balls, like the or dinary tivoli, but the king ball, instead of being spotted in a depression at the top of the board, is held lightly in position by the weight of the hinged arm f. There being two alleys, it is more convenient for two persons to play, as each one can use a separate alley; and it requires more skill, to play the game, as the ball may be thrown from one alley into another, unless care is exercised. The handles 7c, being wholly within the outer line of conformation of the board, are not liable to be knocked off or disarranged, as in the ordinary boards.
What I claim is- 1. In a game board, adapted to rest in an inclined position, the combination of the base a, having a curved top, an outer raised edge (1, and the interior raised edges 6, and e, and provided between said raised edges 6, and c, with concaved depressions adapted to hold a 1 ball, and baffle pins arranged in diagonal rows; devices 0, 0, adapted to propel a ball, arranged in the lower end of the alleys formed by the raised edges e, e, and d; an arm, having concaved end adapted to partly envelop a ball resting on the surface of the board, hinged to the raised edge d, centrally at the top of the board; and balls adapted to be propelled by the devices 0, c, and rest in said concaved depression, all as shown and described.
2. A game board, adapted to rest in an inclined position, having an outer raised edge, and an alley on each side of said board provided With propelling devices, having handles wholly within the outer line of conformation of the board, and having its surface between said alleys, provided With concaved depressions, and baifle pins arranged in diagonal rows; and provided with an arm, having concaved end adapted to partly envelop a ball resting on the surface of the board, hinged to the outer raised edge, centrally at the top of the board; all as shown and described.
