PlNCH-BAR.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 480,398, dated August 9, 1892.

Be it known that I, AUSTIN M. COLLETT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Omaha, in the county of Douglas and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and useful Pinch-Bar, of which the following is a specitication.

This invention relates to pinch-bars; and it has for its object to provide an improvement applicable to all ordinary lever pinch-bars and which is adapted to provide a heel or fulcrum-point which will effectually pre *ent the same from slipping when used to move cars, locomotives, or for any other purpose where such bars have a tendency to slip.

It is also the object of this invention to provide a device which is cheap, simple, and effective, and which when applied to any bar will not decrease the value of the same for any other purpose.

\Nith these andmany other objects in view, which will readily appear as the nature of the invention is fully understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated, and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of'a pinch-bar provided with my improvement in use. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a pinch-bar provided with my improvement.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, A represents a pinch-bar of ordinary construction and having the usual pinch end or point B, that is adapted to contact with the rim of the wheel when moving cars or locomotives or with the other object to be moved. The said pinch-bar is provided in rear of said pinch-point with a threaded perforation O or a series of such perforations, if desired, which accommodate the heel or f ulcrum-screw D. The screw D is constructed of hard steel and is provided with a conical bearing-point E, that is adapted to engage the rail and form a non-slipping heel or fulcrum-point for the pin ch-bar, and a squared head at its outer end adapted to receive a tool for adjusting the screw. It can be readily seen that while said set-screw serves the function of holding the pinch-bar to its work and effectually preventing the same from slipping when in operation at the same time the said set-screw can be set to obtain any desired leverage or ad justed to any-sized wheel or other object with which the same may be used.

The adaptations and advantages of the herein-described improvement in pinch-bars is thought to be apparent withoutfurther description.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The combination, with a pinch-bar having a threaded perforation in rear of the pinch end thereof, of an adjustable fulcrum-screw passed vertically through the perforation and provided at its upper end with a squared head and terminating below the bar in a conical heel or fulcrum-point, substantially as set forth.
