CURRY-COMB.

SPEGIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 480,196, dated August 2, 1892.

To all whom it may concern;

Be it known that I, THEODORE H. IRELAND, a citizen of the United States, residing in the county of Green and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Curry-Comb, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to improvements in curry-combs.

The object of the present invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive curry-comb by which horses may be quickly groomed without liability of injuring them or the hair.

The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereto appended.

In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a curry-comb constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is plan view, partly in section.

Like numerals of reference indicate like parts in the figures of the drawings.

1 designates acurry-comb comprising a rectangular frame 2, constructed of a single piece of wire and provided with a tang 3, formed by the ends of the wire, and the handle 4, in which the tang is secured. The rectangular frame is resilient and is provided with a central loop 5, which is formed by bending the wire inward from the end of the frame and which provides a resilient tongue. The tongue extends along the frame through the entire length of the latter, and it possesses suffioient resiliency to enable it to be moved about the hair of a horse without injuring the hair or the horse and without irritating the latter. tended upward at 7to raise the handle sufficiently above the plane of the frame. The rectangular brushing-frame 2 may be moved quickly over a horse in grooming it without liability of injuring the animal or damaging the hair thereof, and it can be moved against the hair to loosen the dust and dirt to cause the same to be thrown off by the elasticity of the hair. It rapidly removes old hair, stains, and stiffness of the hair, leaving the latterperfectly clean and smooth. It is simple and comparatively inexpensive in construction and possesses great durability, as it will not easily become broken. The tongue has its sides parallel with the sides of the frame, and the distance between the sides of the tongue and between them .and the sides of the frame is about the same.

In removing dry mud the comb will be found to operate to great advantage by moving it the way the hair lies.

What I claim is A curry comb comprising the rectangular brushing-frame constructed of a single piece of Wire and provided with the central resilient tongue extending inward from the outer end of the frame throughoutthe entirelength of the latter, said wire being extended upward from the sides of the frame and being formed into a tang, and a handle receiving the tang, substantially as described.
