Description

(No Moden);
G CARR PAPER HANGER.
Patented Aug. Z, 1892.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE CARR, OF CARRVILLE, IOVA.
PAPER-HANG ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 479,971, dated August 2, 1892.
Application led April 7, 1892. Serial No. 428,150. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, GEORGE CARR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Carrville, in the county of Floyd and lState of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in paper-hangers, as will be more fully hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention consists in the provision of a roller to carry paper thereon and which is fastened to the corner board of a frame house, so that said paper may be applied over the sheathing before the application of the weather-boarding or siding to produce warmt-h.
The object of this invention is to facilitate the application of such paper to frame houses by a device which is simple and effective in its construction and operation, easily handled and readily understood, and cheap of manufacture.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device shown applied in position. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the device detached and on a larger scale. Fig. 3 is a detailview in perspective of the roller detached. Fig. 4 is a similar view of the support for the roller, showing the roller as disconnected therefrom.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several iigures of the drawings; A
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the frame or support, which is constructed of suitable size and material, and is provided at oneend withclampsand at theopposite end with a thumb-screw 2X, whereby the same may be properly secured in position on the corner-board of a house, as shown in Fig. 1. The thumb-screw 2X extends through the frame or support and is adapted to engage one side of the corner board. Extending outward from the frame or support 1 are two standards 3 and 4, the standard 3 being formed with a slot 5, opening outward therefrom, and the standard 4 with an aperture G, to thereby receive the journals of the roller. The inner face of the standard 4 is beveled or inclined, as at 7, for a purpose which will be more fully hereinafter set forth. Projecting upward from the frame or support 1, close to the standard 3, is a spring-catch 8, having a shoulder 9, adapted to take over the projecting end of one of the journals of the roller to hold the same in position in the standard.
The roller 10 consists of a shaft or spindle 11, provided with journals 12 at the ends thereof, which are adapted to fit in the standards 3 and 4, hereinbefore referred to, and on one end of said shaft or spindle is secured a head 13, having an outer beveled face 14. This outer face 14 of the said head is conical in shape, being beveled from the center toward the periphery, and bears upon the inclined face 7 of the standard 4. By this means the roller is held in proper position between the standards 3 and 4 and prevented from having a longitudinal movement, the said beveled construction also producing a certain amount of friction, which, together with the springcatch engaging the opposite end or journal of the roller, prevents the paper from running off the roll too easily.
The roll of paper is placed upon the roller and the said roller then secured in position in the standards 3 and 4. The frame or support carrying the roller is then clamped in position on the corner board of a house, when the paper can be readily placed in position over the sheathing, as will be readily understood.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is In a papering device of the character set forth, the combination of a frame or support having clamps at one end and a thumb-screw at the other, standards extending from said frame or support, one of which is provided with a slot and the other with an aperture, a roller removably engaging said standards, and a spring-catch extending outward adjacent to one of said standards and engaging one end of the roller, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE CARR.
