Description

(No Model.)
G. S. GHAMBERLIN. TOWEL GRIP Patented Aug. 2, 1892. l
D) 5E wig: )/V////////// Qw/mfssfs l NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE S. CHAMBERLIN, OF NEV YORK, N. Y.
TOWEL-G RIP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 479,984, dated August 2, 1892.
Application filed July 24, 1891.
To @ZZ whom t Wz/ty concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE S. CHAMBER- LIN, a resident of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Towel-Grips, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings, Figure l represents a front view with the sliding sleeve pushed up and the lower end of the loop exposed. Fig. 2 is a front view showing the towel in position in the holder and the sliding sleeve in a closed position against the towel, and Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on the line 3 3.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to securely fasten a towel to a counter, bar, or other place in such a manner that it willnot be detached by accident or by malicious persons. This object is attained by bending a heavy'springwire in the form of a loop having an eye a and legs or sides AA, said legs or sides being curved inwardly and across each other and having their ends bent upward to give symmetry to the device and to prevent the sleeve B from slipping off the wire holder thus formed. When the sleeve B, which encircles the wire parts A A and is sliding in action, is moved up toward the eye oJ of the wire part, the lower section of the loop is exposed, a
Serial No. 400,528. (No model.)
corner of the towel is inserted therein, and the sliding sleeve Bis forced down against it. When the sleeve B is in the latter position, its upper edge is below the point of the beginning of the curves of the wire sides, so that when the towel is pulled the pressure on the free ends forming the lower part of the loop causes the same to spread. The consequent lateral pressure of the curved sides of the loop against the upper edge of the sliding sleeve causes the same to be forced downward against the towel, thus holding it securely.
-The device is to be secured in position for use by a screw-eye or other means.
Having thus described myV invention, what Iclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The towel-grip consisting of the holder having the outward ly-bowed opposite spring sides whose lower free ends curve inward toward and across each other, combined with the slide closely encompassing and adapted to have a sliding motion on said spring sides, snbstan tially as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that l claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name,in presence of two witnesses, this 22nd day of July, 1891.
GEO. S. CHAMBERLIN.
