REVERSIBLE PLOW-POINT.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 478,730, dated July 12, 1892.

To aZZ whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1', CHARLES J. ABBOTT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Greenville, in the county of Montcalm and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Reversible Plow-Points; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to that class of plowpoints having its extreme forward part detachable from the plowshare proper and reversible thereon; and its object is to provide the same with certain new and useful features, hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective of a device embodying my invention,.showing the point proper detached; Fig. 2, a plan view of the same with the point attached, andFig. 3 a side elevation of the same.

Like letters refer to like parts in all of the figures.

A is the plowshare, the forward angle of which is abruptly reduced in vertical thickness upon its upper and lower sides, forming shoulders J, and terminates in a wed ge-shaped projection O, at one side of which is a flange G, which projects beyond said projection 0 toward the cutting-edge of the share and abuts against one side of the detachable point, which latter consists of a plain wedge-shaped casting 13, having its base fitted to abut against the shoulders J and provided with an opening Serial No. 425,665. (No model.)

D to fit upon the part O'of the share, which latter is provided with transverse tongues E E at its opposite sides, which tongues engage corresponding grooves H in the adjacent faces of the opening D. The point B is attached to the share by driving it laterally upon the part 0 until it contacts the flange G, where it is securely held by the tongue E and groove H. For further security a hole Fin the part 0 and a corresponding hole F in the point B may be bored or cast, into which a pin or rivet I may be driven. By the described construction I secure a very strong device and one that is easily made. I

I am aware that detachable and reversible plow-points secured by interlocking parts are not new. I do not claim such, broadly; but

What I claim is v The combination, with the plowshare abruptly reduced in vertical section at its forward end and upon its upper and lower sides, said reduction extending but partially the width of said share, thereby forming shoulders J, a flange G, and a projection C, said flange extending beyond the forward end of said projection and said projection being wedge-shaped and formed with transverse tongues E, of the point having a wedge-shaped opening fitted to the projection O and recesses for engaging the tongues of said projection, all substantially as shown and described.
