SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 429,767, dated June 10, 1890.

Application filed January 8, 1890. Serial No. 336,265. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, THOMAS J. MASON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Simpson ville, in the county of Upshur and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Plow, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in plows; and it consists in certain novel features of construction, hereinafter described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of my improved plow, looking at the rear side of the same. Fig. 2 is a detail View showing the members of the slide in perspective.

Referring to the drawings by letter, A designates a shovel-plow of the usual construction,

and in which the shovel B is secured to the standard 0 by a long bolt D, which passes entirely through the standard and projects from the rear side of the same. The slide E is composed of two members F G, which are provided at their meeting ends with the enlargements liI, having radial notches I on their inner faces, which are adapted to engage with each other, and a securing pin or bolt J is in- .serted through the enlargements, so as to secure the same together, as will be readily understood. The upper member F of the slide is provided with a longitudinal slot K, through which the bolt D passes to secure the slide to the standard.

The operation and advantages of my im-' proved device will be readily understood from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.

. \Vitnesses: The plow' is drawn over the ground in the usual manner, and the slide moves along in rear of the shovel, so as to aid in supporting the plow, and consequently enables it to move easily and steadily, so that the taX upon the drivers strength is reduced to a minimum. The longitudinal slot in the upper member of the slide permits the same to be adjusted to the length of the shovel, so that the lower member may run on the surface of the ground, while the joint between the two members permits them to be secured together at any desired angle to correspond with the angle or inclination of the standard. The slide can thus be quickly secured to any shovel-plow, and as it is very simple its advantages are thought to be obvious.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-

1. Theslide for shovel-plows, composed of two members provided at their ends with enlargements having radial notches adapted to engage each other, and a pivot-pin inserted through said enlargements, as set forth.

2. The slide for shovel-plows, consisting of two'members having enlargements at their ends, provided with radial notches, the upper member being provided with a longitudinal slot, and a pivot-pin inserted through the enlargements of the members, as set forth.
