To all whom it may concern:

Be it 'known that I, CALLUM H. BROWN, of Nashville, county of Davidson, and State of Tennessee, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Shirts, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is to provide a" shirt which will be comfortable to the wearer,

permit the trousers to conform faithfully and closely to the figure, and the manufacture of which will be attended with little expense.

\Vith these ends in view my invention consists of a shirt having the usual rear wide taileflap and a front tail-flap, the edges of which are curved in concave lines from the hip downward. I

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents the figure of a man, showing a shirt having my invention embodied therein. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of my improved shirt.

Referring to the drawings, in carrying'out my invention the bosom A, sleeves B, bodyO, and rear tail D may be formed and constructed in any approved manner as heretofore; but the front tail E,'instead of being like the rear tail, is reduced or narrowed, its opposite side edges being curved inward, as plainly shown at e e. The curves begin at or near the points where the two tails join the body of the shirt and extend thence toward each other to about midway of.tl1e tail, whence they extend nearly parallel to the end of the same. As a result of this peculiar formation of the front tail, it will cover the ab domen of the wearer and its side edges will follow the contour of the front of the legs where they join the body, as plainly shown in Fig. 1. From this it will be seen that the legs below the hips are free from that useless amount of material characteristic of the common form of shirt-tails. Consequently no tucking or adjusting of the tail within the trousers is necessary. Owing to this fact the comfort of the wearer is greatly increased and a more faithful and truer fit of the trousers around the hips and legs may be secured;

further, the expense of production of the shirts is diminished, owing to the saving of In forming the tail so that its side edges will follow the shape of the legs, as described, I propose to cut the gusset higher than is customary in the manufacture ofshirts of the usual type.

It is to be observed that my invention does not consist simply in reducing the width of the tail-flap to give the same the pointed form. On the contrary, the front flap is cut away along its edges, a concave curvature commencing at a high point and following the curvature of the thighs, in order that the front of the garment may fit smoothly over the abdomen without being wrinkled or doubled.- \Vhen made in this peculiar form and used in connection with the rear flap of full width, I secure a suitable covering of the body without wrinkling or doubling the garment at any point.
