-CHARLES SOBRESKI TERPENING, OF PRESCOTT, lVASHINGTON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 476,699, dated June 7, 1892.
Application filed April 28, 1890, Serial No. 349,705. (No model.)
To aZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES SOBRESKI TER- PENING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Prescott, in the county of Walla lValla and State of \Vashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices fol-Supporting the Rear Flaps of Childrens Trousers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to supporters for the rear flaps of pants.
The object of the invention is to provide simple, compact, and efficient means for auto matically returning the rear portions or flaps of childrens pants to their proper place when drawn down and after being released.
The improvement consists of the novel features and the peculiar construction and combination of the parts, which will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and which are shown in the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the application of the invention, the dotted lines showing the rear flap lowered or drawn down. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the plate for supporting the spring winding-drum. Fig. 3 is a View of the cap, looking at the inner side of the same. Fig. at is adetail view of the drum and the spring. Fig. 5 is a detail plan and side View of the spring winding-dru1n and the plate for supporting the same, showing the relative arrangement of the said parts. Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the supporter, parts being broken away to show more clearly the relative arrangement of the parts.
The plate A for supporting the active parts of the device is oblong and provided at each end with a safety-pin O, by means of which the device is secured to the garment. The ends of this plate are coiled around one side or member of the said pins 0, asashown most clearly in Fig. 2. The pin or stud d, secured to and projected from the plate A, receives the spring winding drum or barrel E, which is mounted and rotates thereon. One end of the coil-spring F is secured to the stud or pin (2 and the other end is fastened to the drum or barrel E. The cap B for protecting the drum or barrel E is secured to the plate Ain any suitable manner, preferably by being soldered thereto, and is centrally apertured to receive the outer end of the stud d and brace the same. The rim of the cap is cut away to form the opening I), through which the tape or cord D extends. The wire loop G, fastened to the plate A and located in the said opening b, prevents the tape or cord from injurious contact with the sharp edges or corners of the separated ends of the said rim. The inner end of the cord D is secured to the drum and its outer end is provided with a hook to engage with a suitable eye on the garment. The cord is wound on the drum in a reverse direction to the spring.
The supporter is attached to the garment by means of the safety-pins O O, as shown,
being secured to the garment in front of the rear flap of the pants. The end of the cord D is attached to the waistband of the rear flap of the pants. hen the said rear flap of the pants is lowered, the cord D is unwound from the drum and winds up the spring. Obviously when the said rear flap of the pants is released the spring will react and replace the said rear flap.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As an improved article of manufacture, a garment-supporter consisting of plate A, having safety-pins at its opposite ends, a spring winding-drum mounted on one face of said plate, a cap for protecting the said drum, a cord secured to the said drum and wound thereon, and means for securing the free end of the said cord to the fiap of the garment, whereby when the said flap is lowered the cord will be unwound from the drum against the tension of the spring and on releasing the flap the said cord will be rewound on the drum and return the flap to a normal position, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix inysignature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES SOBRESKI TERPENING.
