Be it known that I, WALTER E. MAYO, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Gloucester, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Blind-Hinges, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in blind-hinges; and it has for its object to prevent the blind from being accidentally detached from its hinges in opening or closing it, and it also serves as a protection against raising or detaching the blinds from the outside when said blinds are closed, thus serving as a protection against burglars attempting to enter a room through the windows or screen or blind doors, as will hereinafter be more fully shown and described, reference beingto the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure l represents a perspective view of the improved blind-hinge, showing the blind as swung open. Fig. 2 represents a front elevation showing the blind closed, with a portion of it shown as broken away. Fig. 3 represents a perspective view showing the device applied as a safety-guard for ordinary blindhinges, and Fig. 4t represents a detail perspective view of the improved hinge-plate.

Similar letters refer to similar parts wherever they occur on the different parts of the drawings.

The invention, although particularly designed for window-blinds, is, however, equally well adapted for screen or blind doors or gates, and it is carried out as follows:

A in Figs. 1, 2, and 3 represents a blind, door, or gate, to which are secured the usual hinge-leaves B B, which may be of any wellknown form. Each of such hinge-leaves is adapted to receive and to swing on a pintle C, secured to or made in one piece with a face-plate C', having a slotted perforation C, adapted to receive a fastening-screw D, by means of which said face-place may be adjustably secured to the window-frame, jamb, or face of the wall, as shown. In practice I prefer t0 male said face-plate O rights and lefts for the right and left blinds-that is, I arrange the pintle O on one side of the center of lsaid plate, namely, on its outside, as shown,

so as to' cause the fastening-screw D to be concealed by the blind when the latter is closed, as shown in Fig. 2, thus preventing anybody from unfastening and removing said screw from the outside when the blind is closed, by which the raising and removal of the blind is impossible by outside parties as long as the blind is closed.

The blind may be provided with a fastening device a, of any suitable or well-known construction for the purpose of holding it in a closed position.

By the employment of the slotted faceplate O and its fastening-screw D the proper position of the blind relative to the windowframe or window can be obtained simply by adjusting the positions of said face-plates on the wall, window-frame, or jamb, and such means of adjustment is particularly desirable in hanging the blinds or in case they should sag by continuons wear.

The invention may, if so desired, be applied to ordinary blind-pintles E E, as shown in Fig. 3, it being only necessary to use in addition to one of the same and the leaf-hinge B one of my improved slotted face-plates C and its pintle O, placed in a reversed position, so as to cause the end of said pintle to enter a portion of the perforation in the leaf-hinge B, thus preventing the blind from being accidentally detached or forcibly removed from its supports when the blind is closed, thus acting as a lock and safeguard in preventing the removal of the blind, except when it is desired to paint or repair the house or its blinds, and for this purpose it is only necessary to loosen the fastening-screw D and to move its face-plate O out of engagement with the hinge-leaf on the blind, after which the latter can be unhinged and removed for the purpose stated. To prevent the face-plate O from sagging, it may be secured by an additional screw F. (Shown in dotted lines in Fig. 4..)
