Description

(No Model) 0. J. J BUSAGKER. TOY.
Patented May 10, 1892.
UNITED STATES ATENT OFFICE.
CARL J OHANN J URGEN BUSAOKER, GOSLAR, GERMANY.
TOY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 474,543, dated May 10, 1892.
Application filed September 21, 1891. Serial No. 406,418. (No model.) Patented in Germany June 11, 1890, No. 56,771, and in England August 29, 1891,llo.14,659.
T0 50% whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL J OHANN J t'IRGEN BUsACKER, a subject of the King of Prussia, residing at Goslar, in the Kingdom of Prussia, German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys, (for which I have obtained German Letters Patent No. 56,771, dated June 11, 1890, and English Letters Patent No. 14,659, dated August 29, 1891,) of which the following is a specification.
My invention has relation in general to toys, and more particularly to the construction and arrangement of a toy for furnishing pleasure or amusement to children as Well as grown persons.
The principal object of my invention is to provide a toy of simple and durable construction and such as is inexpensive to manufacture and adapted for general pleasure and amusement.
My invention consists of a toy constructed and the parts thereof arranged for operation substantially in the manner hereinafter described and claimed.
The nature and objects of the invention will be more fully understood from the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, and in which- Figure 1 is a view, partly in elevation and partly in section, of a toy embodying features of my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section through the toy, and Fig. 3 is a top or plan view of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, 0 represents a cylindrical or other form of body provided with a handle a. This body 0 is recessed at right angles to the axis thereof, and a longitudinal slot f is formed in the upper face of the body 0. In this recess is mounted a roller I), having pins 1) at the respective ends thereof. The body 0 is provided with plates 9' to form bearings for the roller b. At suitable distances apart on the roller 1) are provided springs d, d, andd of such length as that the free ends d' will protrude over the slot f, formed by the recess 6. These springs are compressed in the recess 6 and arranged so as to alternately operate from the roller b-that is to say, when the roller 1) is rotated the free of the spring d is arranged so as to end c' enter the slot f by reason of its elasticity, and by continuing the rotation of the drum the free end d of the spring cl will enter the slot and then the free end of the spring d". The slot f is inclosed or shielded by a plate It, provided with recesses 71'. These recesses h are of any'suitable size and are situated directly over the springs 01, d, and d". On the body a are situated curved steel or other suitable metallic wires g, protruding vertically through the recesses or openings h of the said cover h. On these wires 9 are mounted balls. f, made of any suitable material and weight best adapted for the intended purpose. The body 0 is further provided with a detachable cover It, provided with a central opening and slotted wall is, through which extend the pins 1) of the roller 19, and to one or the other of the said pins 2) is applied in any preferred manner a crank or handle Z.
The mode of operation of the toy hereinbefore described is as follows: When the balls f, mounted on the respective wires g, are at rest, they occupy positions in the recessed portions h of the cover it, and with the roller 1) occupying in this case such position in the body 0 that the ends 01' of the respective springs d, d, and d" bear against the wall or surface of the recess e. WVhen desired, the roller 1) is rotated by means of the handle Z, which causes the ends d, respectively, of the springs cl, (1, and d to penetrate or enter alternately the recesses h of the cover it and strike against the balls f resting in the said recesses h, to cause the respective balls to be thrown upward successively along the wires g, and are then permitted to return to their former or normal positions by gravity. By continuing the rotation of the roller 17 the free ends of the respective springs will again be compressed in the recesses. These consecutive actions may be caused to take place so long as the rotation of the roller is continued, thereby furnishing considerable innocent amusement to the young and even a few moments of pleasure to grown persons indulging in the actual manipulation of the device, as hereinbefore explained.
Having thus described the nature and objects of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A toy comprising a body, a detachable slotballs along said Wires, substantially as and for ted or recessed cap or cover fitted to said body, the purposes set forth. to guide-wires connected with said body and hav- In witness whereof I have hereunto set my in g balls adapted to slide along said wires, and hand in presence of two witnesses. a. roller journaled in said recess and provided CARL JOHANN JURGEN BUSACKER.
with springs having their free extremities Witnesses: adapted to work in said recess and success- HEINR. BLEYER, ively penetrate the wall thereof to project said N. SEELEN.
