` Toy Hoops. N0. 146,787, Patentedlan.27,1874.`
UNITED STATES GEORGE O. STONE, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN TOV HOOPS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 146,787, dated January 27, 1874; application tiled .lune 19, 1873. Y 4
To aLl whom fit may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE (l. STONE, of the city of Washington, District of Columbia, have invented a Toy Hoop, of which the following is a speciiicat-ion:
My invention relates to the combination, with an ordinary toy hoop, of a bell affixed by means ot' Wire or cord composed of other material, to the center thereof, so that the act of rolling',` the hoop will cause the bell to tinkle at each quarter revolution.
The drawing is a perspective View oi' a hoop embodying my invention.
A is a hoop; B B, center plates; C, axle to which the bell F is loosely hun g D, wires looped at each end, and secured to the stay-wires E, and aiiixed transversely, to keep the said staywires separated, and also for the purpose of arresting' the tongue attachment I, secured to the clapper H. Rising vertically from the apex of the bell is an arm, K, provided with a bandloop at its end, which secures the bell to the axle O, being` prevented from sliding laterally l either to one side or the other of the axle by means of the washers G.
It will be perceived that as the hoop revolves the bell will, by its gravity, remain in a vertical position, and at each quarter revolution, the tongue I will come in contact with the transverse wires D, and be thereby arrested suiicient-ly to throw the clapper from a vertical position, and bring;1 the same in contact with the sides forming,` the mouth of the bell.
I claim as my inventionl. The toy hoop A, having the stay-wires E, the transverse brace-wires D, the center plates B and bell F, constructed substantially as described.
2. The bell F, loosely secured to the axle C, as described, and provided with the tongue H I, all arranged substantially as and for thc purpose setforth.
GEO. C. STONE. "itnesses T. C. CONNOLLY, ELDRIDGE J. SMITH.
