CLASP FOR S USPENDERS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 473,458, dated April 26, 1892. Application filed January 15, 1891; Serial No. 377,835. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, CHARLES R. HARRIS, of \Villiamsport, in the county of Lycomingand State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clasps for Suspenders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, andeXact' description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to an improvementin clasps for suspenders, the object being to provide a simple clasp of few parts capable of quick and easy application and effective in use; and it consists in a substantially V-shaped body portion, in connection with a clasp pivotally connected with the body by an eyelet or similar means.

The accompanying drawing is a view in elevation of my improved clasp.

A represents the clasp for the suspenderwebs, it being substantially the same as shown in some of my other patents for connecting the back straps of a suspender. This clasp is provided at its lower end with an extension 1, which constitutes a continuation of the body at this point, and to this extension the remaining portion of the device is pivotallyconnected, as shown in the drawing. This may be accomplished in several ways, the object being to allow for the motion of the Wearers shoulders at this point, thus taking it off of the buttons in a large measure.

To the extension of the clasp or body Athe clasp 2 is connected by the ring 3 and the plate 4, the latter being looped around the ring with its free ends embracing the extension 1 and pivotally connected to said extension by the eyelet 5, the ring being connected to the clasp 2 by bending the upper end of the latter around the ring in the ordinary manner. By thus connecting the two sections or clasps by a transverse pivot either or both clasps can swing or turn laterally to accommodate themselves to the body of the wearer.

It is evident that slight changes might be resorted to in the form and arrangement of the several parts described Without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, and hence I do not wish to limit myself to the exact constructions herein set forth; but,

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

An attachment for suspenders, consisting, essentially, of an upper V-shaped clasp, the side edges of which are adapted'to be bent around and lap over the edges of suspenderwebs, a second clasp carrying button-straps, and a connection between the two clasps, consisting, essentially, of a plate and a loop loosely connected, the plate overlapping the smaller end of one clasp and secured thereto by a pivot and the loop loosely connected to the smaller end of the other clasp, substantially as set forth.
