Description

(No Model.)
GORTON.
HOSE SUPPORTER- Patented July 9 lNVENTOR: 5
UNITED A STATES PATENT Optics.
ROBERT GORTON, OF PLAINFIELD, JERSEY.
HOSE-SUPPQRTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 542,440, dated July 9, 1895.
Original application filed April 12, 1895, Serial No. 545,459. Divided and this application filed May 18, 1895. Serial No.'
549,771. (No model.) I
To and whom, it mag concern.-
Be it known that I, ROBERT GORTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Plainfleld, in the county of Union and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hose-Supporters, of which -the following is a specification.
My invention relates principally to that class ofsupporters in which the retaining-loop constricted at one end engages a button, between which and the loop the garment is clasped. It may, however, be applied to other classes of supportersfor instance, to the class in which the garment is drawn into a loop or clasp having a narrowing or V-shaped slot.
The invention consists in the employment of a flap of rubber or cloth or other suitable material attached to the supporter at some convenient point in some convenient way and adapted to lie between the loop and the garment, which engages the button.
The purpose of the invention is to prevent slipping, tearing, and wear of the garment.
In the accompanying drawings,Figure l is a front elevation; Fig. 2, a side viewwith the flap, the garment, and loop in section; Fig. 3,
a perspective view; and Fig. 4 shows a V-' shaped 100p and flap.
X indicates the ordinary webbing, and Y the button attached to a plate secured to the webbing. This button may be of any suitable materiaF-for instance, metalor it may be of fibrous material or elastic material, such as rubber. I
Z is the ordinary constricted loop co-operating with the button, and A is a flap of the character described. As shown, it is stitched to the webbing. Of course it might. be arranged in' any suitable way.
B indicates the garment.
The construction and manner of application of thissupporter are obvious, and further description is unnecessary.
The flap A covers the garment and consequently relieves it from strain and wear by the loop or clasp, and the tendency of the garment and flap to adhere prevents slipping.
In Fig. 4 I have shown the flap in connection with an ordinary V-shaped clasp or hoop. With this style of supporter no button is employed.
This application is a division of my application filed April 12, 1895, Serial No. 545,459.
I claim as my invention 1. A garment supporter having a button, a constricted retaining loop and a flap of suitable material, adapted to be interposed between the garmentand the loop.
2. A garment supporter having a flap of suitable material adapted to be interposed between the garment and the loop or clasp.
- In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name.
ROBERT GORTON.
