GEORGE D. WALKER, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
CRIB ATTACHMENT FOR BEDS.
SPECIFICATION forming part 0f Letters Patent No. 472,647, dated April 12, 1892.
Application tiled September 2l, 1891. Serial No. 406.392. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom t may concern:
Beit known that I, GEORGE D. WALKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Bed Attachment, of which the following is a specitcation.
This invention relates to bedsteads; and it consists in an attachment adapted to be connected thereto to hold an infant or for any other purpose.
To this end the attachment is constructed substantially as hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and as illustrated on the accompanying sheet of drawings, wherein- Figure lis a general perspective view of this attachment, showing it in position upon a bedstead. Fig. 2 is a central transverse section of the attachment alone and on an enlarged scale. Fig. 3 is astill further enlarged perspective detail of the supporting-leg.
Referring to the said drawings, the letter B designates a bedstead ofthe usual or of any preferred construction and to the side board of which my improved attachment is capable of being connected. The latter comprises a stout wire frame-work F, preferably of about the shape shown, and which has a bottom, a back, and ends, preferably of light wire fabric, fastened in the frame-work, the whole forming a receptacle whose front, or the side next tothe bed, is open.
On the front cross-bar of the frame-work are loosely mounted two hooks H, preferably covered with rubber tubing R. Depending from the rear lower bar of the frame-work is a leg, which comprises a Y-shaped member Y, having eyes I at its upper ends, which are loosely mounted on said bar and having a longitudinal slot S in its body, a U-shaped lower member L, loosely embracing and passing below the lower end of the upper member and having a rivet R passing through the slot therein, and a transverse bolt T, also passing through the lower member and the slot of the upper and having a head at one end and a hand-nut N on the other. A chain C connects the leg with the bottom of the receptacle.
In use the hooks take over the side board of a bedstead, the rubber tubing preventing the scratching thereof, and the leg rests on the floor to support the outer side of the receptacle, the chain C preventing the leg swinging out of position. The hand-nut can be turned to loosen the bolt, so as to adjust the length of the leg in a manner which is obvious when it is desired to adapt the device to a bed of a different height. y
When not in use, the device can be removed, its leg folded beneath its bottom, and the whole stored away; or, if preferred, the leg may be folded and the device swung down against the side of the bed. In its operative position the bottom of the receptacle stands about or .nearly iiush with the bedding and may contain any article desired, though it is especially intended to be of sufficient size to hold an infant, the raised back and ends preventing the infant rolling out onto the licor.
What is claimed as new is- The herein-described attachment for bedsteads, the same comprising a stout wire framework containing wire fabric, forming a bottom, a back, and ends, hooks connected to the front cross-bar of the frame-work, a leg comprising a Y-shaped member, having eyes at its upper ends, which are pivoted on the rear cross-bar, and having alongitudinal slot in its body, a U-shaped member loosely embracing said body and extending beyond its lower end, a bolt passing through a hole in said member and through said slot and a hand-nut on said bolt, andachain connecting said leg with the body of the attachment, all as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE D. -WALKER Witnesses:
SARAH J. DAvIs, WM. M. RAYNoLDs.
