Description

UNITED' STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY IRA GOVUM, OF PALESTINE, ARKANSAS.
HEATlNG-STOOL..
SPECIFIATION forming' part of Letters Patent No, 467,606, datecl January 26, 1892.
Application filed October 10, 1891. Serial No. 408,359. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may oonccrn:
Be it known that I, HENRY IRA GovUM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Palestine, in the county of St. Francis and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Heating-Stools; and T do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use thesame, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention is a heating-stool; and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective vien1 of my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of Fig. l cut on the line xx.
My invention is for the purpose of heating smoothing or sad irons, and by removing the cap O may be used for heating water, cooking, or other like purposes.
The invention is made of any suitable' niaterial, preferably in the form of a chair and about the height of the same.
The seat A of the stool consists of four integral pieces, side pieces a, and end pieces Said seat is provided with a rabbet (L2 and recess as for the purposes of receiving the grate B. The grate B is made as an ordinary grate, adapted to fit in said rabbet and having an extension fitting in the recess as. Said grate is removable. The end piecesa' of the seat are provided Wit-h perforations at. A cap O, provided with slots c and lugs c', is made to fit over the said grate, the lugs c' fitting in the perforations a4, the slots c being Wide enough and deep enough to admit the handles of the sad-rons, so that the same may be pushed under the cap, the cap being intended to confine the heat. Vhen it is intended to use the stool for cooking or other like purposes, the said cap is first removed. The heat is applied by means of a gasolineburner D, attached to a tube (Z, on the top of which is an oil-can d'. Said tube passes through a perforation C12 in the upper back of the stool.
A rod E passes through the back part of' the stool and through the rear ends of the side pieces a of the seat, and is secured at both ends by nuts. Torking ,on said rod is an adj usting-clamp F, having through its front end a horizontal perforation f, through which the rod E works. Just in the rear of said perforation and running into the same is a Vertical slot f through which works the tube d, and in the rear end of the clanlp is a female screw, in which works the thumbscrew G and presses the tube d against the rod E, and when so impinged said tube is ing` it to the right or left, as above described' Said stool may be heated by gas as well as by gasoline, the connection at the upper end of the tube (Z being made by means of a rubber tube.
Having described my invention, what I claini as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination of the stool provided with the seat A, having the rabbet (L2 and recess (1.3, removable grate B, constructed to fit in said seat, rod E, secured in the rear part of said stool, clamp F, having the horizontal perforation f, Vertical slot and thumb-screw G, and adj ustable tube cl, working in said slot and bearing on its lower end the burner D, substantially as shown and described.
2. The combination of the stool provided with the seat A, having the rabbet C02, recess C03, and perforations ati, grate B, constructed to fit in said seat, rod E, secured in the rear part of said stool, clamp F, having the horizontal perforation f, Vertical slotf', and thumb-screw G, adjustable tube cl, working in said slot and bearing on its lower end the' burner D, cap C, provided with the slots c, and lugs c', constructed to fit over the grate, substantially as shown and described, and for the purposes set forth.
In testi mon y whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HENRY IRA GOVUM.
Witnesses:
