KNIFE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 417,539, dated December 17, 1889.

vania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Meat Knife and Saw; and I do hereby declare the following to be full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled inthe art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, forming part of this specification.

My invention consists in the improvements in combined meat knives and saws hereinafter set forth and explained, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which the figure is a perspective view of my improved combined meat knife and saw.

In the construction of my improvement shown, A is a meat-knife. To the back of this knife, near-the point thereof, is a vertical standard B, either made integral therewith or securely fastened thereto, and at the shank of the blade, where the handle E is secured thereto, is another like standard C, also made integral with the blade or securely fastened thereto. In the tops of the standards B and C is secured a saw D, the end CZ of the saw passing through a slit in the top of the standard B, where it is retained by means of a small pintle b, and the opposite end of the saw C, having a small bolt a riveted thereto, and passing through a hole in the top of the 3 5 standard C, where it is secured by means of a thumb-nut e, whereby the saw can be properly stretched in place or is adapted to be removed and replaced by a new one when desired. By this construction I am enabled to 4o construct a combined knife and saw that for most purposes will take the place of anordinary knife and a meat-saw, and which is a most useful and convenient article, especially for domestic use.

Having thus described my invention so as to enable others to construct and use the same, what I claim'as new, and desire to secureby Letters Patent of the United States, is-

In a combined knife and meat-saw, the com- 5o bination of a knife having standards on the back thereof, with a removable and adj ustable saw mounted in said standards, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
