JOHN RHODES, OF BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND.
TOP FOR STANDS AND BRACKETS FOR HOLDING 0R DISPLAYING HATS, BONNETS, dc.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 467,313, dated January 19, 1892. Application filed January 19, 1891. Serial No. 378,306. (No model.) Patented in England September 23, 1889, No. 14,956.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN RHODES, residing at Birmingham, England, a subject of Her Majesty Queen of Great Britain, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tops for Stands and Brackets, (for which I have obtained a patent in Great Britain, No. 14,956, dated September 23, 1889,) of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in or connected with tops for stands and brackets used for displaying hats, bonnets, confectionery-dishes, and other goods in shop-windows and show-rooms; and the objects of my improvements are, first, a top having great friction; second, a top having no sharp or rough edges; third, a top for displaying the inside of round-crowned hats. I attain these objects by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly in vertical section; and Fig. 2 is a top view of the same. I
These figures show a concave metal top I), having its peripheral part first bent out horizoutally, then down to form a square edge 0, and finally up again in a flange d outside of the lower edge of a rubber strip a, which is bent up to cover the horizontal top as Well as the vertical outer face of the said peripheral part of the said top. The flange cl may be sprung or turned up and over on the rubber into the position and construction shown after the rubber strip a has been put in place.
I support the top or that part of my device on which the hat, bonnet, &o., rest on a bracket or stand. This stand consists-of the rod 0, attached to the said top, and the base-piece 19, supporting said rod. I make the tops of stamped or cast metal or other suitable material, attaching them to the stands or brackets with screwed sockets in the usual manner, the stand shown in the drawings forming no part of my present invention.
I am aware that prior to my invention tops for stands and brackets have been covered with velvet and fitted with spikes to give friction and retain goods in position; but
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent. is
A hat-supportprovided' with a concave top, in combination with a bent strip of frictional material extending above its periphery, the peripheral part of the said top being bent outward and down and finally up outside of the lower part of the said strip to holdit in place,
substantially as set forth.
