Description

Patented dan., 9, lilll Aonewes.
'WILLIAM Irl. JOSLIN, 0F SGUTH SCITUATE, RHTCDE ISLAND.
BOX.
Application filed March 5,
ot South Scituate, inthe county ot Providence and State of Rhode lsland, have invented certain new `and useful linprovements in Boxes, or' which the following is a specication.
This invention relates to an improvement in a box or casing adapted more particularly for the display of goods on a stand, counter or other exposed position; and the object oit' this invention is to provide such a casing with an inner receptacle, and means ior supporting this inner receptacle in an inclined position in said box` te render more attractive and better display the goods carried thereby.
rlhe nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the iiollowing detail description is taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the invention residing in the combination and arrangement ol' parts as claimed.
In the drawings forming part of this specification, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views and wherein z- Figure l is a perspective view showing the cover of the box open and the inner receptacle set on an incline in. the outer casing.
Figure 2 is a side elevation illustrating the inner receptacle as set on an inc-line, its raised edge being supported on an inwardly projecting lip ii'orined integral with the wall ot the outer casing.
flligure 3 is a sectional sideelevation showing the relative positions oiz the rear walls olf both the inner and outer casings, also indicatilrg in dotted lines the engaging position of the supporting lip.
I'Pigure 4f is a view oi the rear wall el the outer casing illustrating one 'tornl oli supporting lip therein.
lilith reference to the drawings, l() designates one torni o i' a display box or casing in which is mounted o separate and independent receptacle 'lli which in this particular case occupies the middle portion of this casing.
lt is Jfound in practice to be of advantage in displaying goods carried by this box or casing that the inner receptacle should be raised or set at au angle or inclination 1920. Serial No. 363,515.`
within the main casing; and vin order to accomplish the supporting `of this inner Areceptacle .in its raised or inclined position, l. havecut the rear wall l2 ofthe receptacle on a curve as at 13, see Figure 4, to provide a lip 14, the upper edge of which is adapted to be bent inwardly Jfrom the plane yof its wall kto provide a `rest or support for the edge portion 1510i this inner receptacle.
lWhen the inner receptacle is shaped to fit closely between the rear wall l2 and the front wall 16 of the outer casing, it is found that the tipping or setting of the inner receptacle on an incline necessitates the yielding or bending of the upper edge lf( of this front wall 16, as illustrated in Figures l and 2, owing to the fact that this inner receptacle when so set on an angle, takes up more space than when set squarely into the outer casing. Therefore when the inner receptacle is set at the desired incline the outward spring of this forward lip serves to bind and hold the receptacle against the rear wall with its edge l resting upon the inturned lip 14.
y lillhen it is desired to restore this inner receptacle to its `normal position within the outer casing, it is only necessary to bend back this supporting lip parallel with the planeet its rear wall, which will permit the receptacle 1l to be pressed back into position in the outer casing to permit the closing of the cover 18 and facilitate shipping.
The device is extremely simple and practical in construction and effective in its operation, and by its use the goods ina-y be readily and effectively displayed,
rl`he foregoing description is directed solely towards the construction illustrated, but l desire it to be understood that l reserve the privilege oi resorting to all the ineclninical changes to which the device is susceiitihlmthe invention being defined and limited only by the terms of the appended claims.
l claim:
l, A display box comprising an outer container having an adjustable receptacle therein one of the walls of said container being provided with an inwardly bendab-le lip member. the upper edge olr which is adapted to be positioned to extend inwardly to support one edge' of said inner receptacle in raised position in the container, said lip Wardlytoengage and support one edge of said innerreeeptaele when set on an incline in the container, the opposite Wall of said 'container being adapted to yield outwardlyV '.undei1 pressure of the adjacent Wall of the inner .receptacle to permit said inner receptacle toV assume a relatively inclined position therein and to cause said receptacle to bind against the rear Wall of the container W 'For holding said receptacle in engagement with said lip.
3. A display box comprising a container having an adjustable receptacle therein, one of the Walls of said Container being provided with an integral bendable lip member out from the wall thereof, the upper edge of which lip is adapted to extend inwardly to engage and support one edge of said inner receptacle when set on an incline in said Container, said lip being adapted to be forced back into the Wall fromA which it is cut to close the opening therein by the repositioning o said receptacle to normal Within said container.
In' testimony whereof I aiX `my signature. A
WILLIAM n. JosLiN.
