Description

(No Model.) 2 snets 'shee1. 2.
B. MORGAN.
TOILET PAPER HOLDER.
UNITED STATES PATENT4 OFFICE.
ELISHA MORGAN, OE SPRINGFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS TolLET-PAPER HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 464,378, dated December 1, 1891.
Application filed September 25, 1891. Serial No. 406,825. (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELISIIA MORGAN, of Springfield, in the county of Hampden and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toilet-Paper Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, .and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
Myinvention has for its object to provide a cheap and usimple holder for toilt-paper in roll form that can he sold with a contained roll of toilet-paper as a complete package,if desired.
In the drawings, Figure rl represents a perspective View of my holder with a roll Of paper within it. Fig. 2 is a similar View with the roll detached and the outer portion or cover of the holder swung up. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional View, and Fig. 4 a View of a modification in which a Single continu'- ous core extending from end to .end is employed to support the roll instead of the tw short plugs. y
Similar letters of reference in the Several figures indicate the same parts.
The letter A indicates a piece of Strawboard or other material constituting the back of the holderand having its portions a d bent outwardly and provided With short plugs or hearings b l) on the inside for sustaining the roll of paper C. Secured to the part A, preferably by a hinge or Iiexible connection, is the part D, which serves at the same time as a means for maintaining the extensions a in their proper relative positions and as a cover or housing for the roll.
To insert the roll in a holder it is only necessary that the latter be thrown open, as shown in Fig. 2, to spread the parts@ a sufficiently to permit the plugs b h tobe inserted in the'ends of the roll and then to swing down the part D into the position shown in Figs. l and 3. By preference I make an eyeleted perforation p in the upper portion of the part A, as shown, to enable the package to be hung up.
The upper surface of the part D is adapted to receive the advertisement of the dealer or manufacturer, if desired.
Instead of employing two short plugs for sustaining the roll, a continuous core, such as shown at K, Fig. 4., may be employed, the the same being supported by a Wire passed through the parts d a and kept in place 'by the end portions o f the hinged part D when the latter is swung down.
I claim as myinventionl. The herein-described paper-roll holder, consisting of the part A, having the extensions ct Ca, and the roll-support carried by said extensions, and the outer part D, which serves to inclose and keep the extensions a o in their proper relative positions and as a cover to the roll,'substantially as described.
2. In the herein-described paper-roll holder, the combination of the part- A, having the outwardly-bent portions of, a and the short plugs h b, carried thereby, with the hinged outer part D inclosing the roll and the parts a a, substantially as described.
ELISHA MORGAN.
