LENA A. TOPP, OF SYRACUSE, NEV YORK.
GARM-ENT-SU PPO RTER'.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 461,650, dated October 20, 1891.
Application filed November 22, 1890. Serial No. 372,316. (No model.)
. is secured, and which are designed to grip the hose between two surfaces without piercing it or passing through punctures therein.
My object is to construct a hose-supporter from two plates, one lying upon the other, the outer one having one end hinged to the main plate and also having a series of rounded or blunt teeth upon its lower end, and the main or inner plate having a loop at one end,'in which the strap or webbing is secured, having also an enlarged aperture adjacent to the lower end, and having rounded or blunt teeth projecting; longitudinally and upward from the inner edge of the end bar, said hinge being formed from a portion of the main plate bent over a bar across the top of the outer plate.
My invention consists in the several novel .features of construction and operation which are hereinafter described, and which are specifically set forth in the claim hereto anneXed.
It is constructed as. follows, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a plan View of the face of the inner or main plate, showing the hinge-piece stamped out -from the plate and projecting therefrom. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of same. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of this plate, showing how the hinge-piece is bent over to form the hinge-barrel. Fig. 4 is a side elevat-ion of the hose-supporter complete, showing the swing of the outer plate by dotted lines. Fig.- 5 is a plan view of the outer plate. Fig. 6 is a Vertical longitudinal section of the hosesupporter complete. Fig. 7 is a front elevation of the hose-supporter complete, showing a strap secured thereto. Fig. 8 is a side elevation of the hose-supporter as in use, with a strap secured to one end and, for illustration, another strap held between `the plates at the lower end.
A is the back plate, stamped out of sheet metal, and by dies I also cut out three sides of part of the top, creating a hinge-piece a,
connected at one edge to this plate, and I also cut out inthe lower end the opening b, creating a lower cross-bar c, upon the inner edge of which are the blunt or rounded teeth or projections d. The punchingout of the hingepiece creates a top loop e.
B is the outer plate, stamped out of sheet metal and having a top loop f and cross-bar g and blunt or rounded teeth or projections h projecting inwardly therefrom. The hingepiece a is bent over the cross-bar g, which bar thus becomes the pintle of the hinge. The arrangementshown of two teetn on the crossbarc and three on the cross-bar gis made by Ine in order to bring each tooth on 'one substantially opposite a cavity or depression in the other. The plate B hangs low enough so thatits teeth cannot mesh with those of the back plate.
Vhen a hose or strap m is inserted through the aperture b and thro ugh between the plates and is drawn taut around anything, then the several teeth will impinge upon the strap or hose, and it will be gripped between and held by them, by the cavities between them, and by the drawing in of the outer plate against the other.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A garmentsupporter consisting of a back plate provided with a top loop, a transverse hinge-barrel struck up from and integral with the back plate, an opening through the plate below the hinge-barrel, creating a lower crossbar, and upwardly-projecting teeth upon the upper edge of said cross-bar, a front plate having a top loop, and a cross-bar integral with said plate, fitting loosely th rough the hinge-barrel upon the back plate, and having teeth upon its lower end, arranged opposite the cavities between the teeth upon the back plate, but not meshing together, as set forth. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 8th day of November, 1890.
