ASSIGNQR TO HIMSELF AND WILLIAM WV. VIOK, OF SAME PLACE.
B O'LT-HOLD ER.
u I SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 455,721, dated July '7, 1891.
Application filed April 21, 1891. Serial No. 389,763. (N 0 model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES A. MILBURN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ethri e, in the county of Lawrence and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bolt-Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in bolt-holders, and has for its object to provide a pair of tongs adapted to grasp and hold a bolt, rod, or the like While a nut is being applied thereto, or for other purpose, and is also adapted to be used as a pipe-wrench; and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, and then specifically pointed out in the claims, due reference bedrawings, forming a part of this specification, wherein- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved tool, showing it applied to a bolt, and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same.
Referring to said drawings, A A indicate two handles, provided near their forward ends with perforated enlargements a a, through which is passed a bolt or rivet B, by means of which the handles A A are pivoted together.
The forward ends of the handles A A are curved in opposite direct-ions, as shown, to form jaws C D, the jaw 0 being curved inwardly and rearwardly, minating in a broad knife-edge c. The end its extreme end terof the jaw D is bent back upon itself to form a rounded bearing (Z, asclearly shown in the or rod will aid in holding the bolt against ro- A tation, but will not mar or mutilate the same.
Having described my invention, What I claim is 1. In a rod or bolt holder, the handles A A pivoted together, as shown, and terminating in curved jaws O D, the jaw 0 being curved inwardly and rearwardly and provided with a knife-edge c, and the jaws D having the inwardly-projecting rounded bearing d, substantially as described, and for the purpose specified.
2. In a rod or bolt holder, the handles A A, provided with perforated enlargements a a and pivoted together by means of a bolt or rivet passing therethrough, the forward ends of said handles being curved in opposite directions to form jaws C D, the jaw 0 being curved inwardlyand rearwardly and provided with a knife-edge c, and the jawD bent back upon itself to form an inwardly-projecting rounded bearing d, substantially as shown and described, and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES A. MILBURN.
