GEORGE CUSI-IING MARTIN, OF OMAHA, NEBRASKA.
GRlDDLE-GREASER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 576,211, dated February 2, 1897.
I Application filed November 6, 1893. Serial No. 490,155. (No model.)
To to whom it may concern-.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE GUsHINe MAR- TIN, a citizen of the United States, residing in Omaha, in the county of Douglas and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and useful Griddle-Greaser, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to a new and novel article of manufacture, and comprises a griddle-greaser that shall be noticeable because of its extreme simplicity.
The accompanying drawing shows a perspective View of a griddle-greaser embodying my invention.
My device comprises, essentially, the elongated U -shaped blank of any suitable size and material, but preferably made of spring-wire. Beginning with the rear curved portions, (marked 1, 2, and 3,) the two arms 2 and 3 extend in a similar orlike plane for a suitable distance, providing a handle by means of which the device is operated. Then there is a short neck portion 4 for each stem, preferably extending approximately at right angles to the (stems, marked 4.- and 9.) Then continuing at right angles again and in line with the handle portion are the preferably-flattened serrated jaw portions 11 and 12. Extending from these jaw portions the wire is continued at right angles and upwardly to form a projection 7. Normally this device would extend in the shape of the letter V, but to bring the jaw portions under control the two arms or handlestems are provided with the sliding collar 6, the ends of which are provided with eye-bearings adapted to contain the two similar handle-bars of the device. This sliding collar is loosely held upon these bars and is adapted to slide thereon.
In using this device in greasing a pan or any other suitable utensil it is simply necessary to place the pork or a greased cloth between the jaws, when the sliding collar is carried backward, forcing the two serrated jaws in juxtaposition and securely impinging the article between the jaws. To release the article, it is simply necessary, of course, to carry the sliding collar forward, when the jaws are permitted to open by virtue of this collar.
Now, having thus described my said invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture a griddlegreaser comprising an elongated U-sha ped spring-wire blank each of the stems being bowed slightly outward then continuing at right angles a suitable distance then extending at right angles and in a plane similar to the main stems but in an opposite direction this latter extension being serrated and finally terminating in an upward extension preferably parallel to and in the same plane but in an opposite direction to said first right-angled portion, a sliding collar adapted to embrace said two main stems at the bowed portion all substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
GEO. OUSHING MARTIN.
In presence of- (J. S. MONTGOMERY, MURRAY MARBURY.
