Description

H. C. TATRO.
VEST POCKET HAT HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 15. 1914.
1,251,443. I Patented Dec. 25,1917.
seams T NT QFFIOR HENRY CLAYTON TATRO, OF ORETOW NgOREGON v sEr-POCKET HAT-HOLDER.
Application filed June 15, 1 917. Serial 1105174394.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY CLAYTON TATRO, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oretown, in the county of Tillamook and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vest-Pocket Hat-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in a pocket hat holder and has for one of its objects the provision of a device of this character, whereby a hat or like apparel may be attached to a pew, theater chair, or the like.
Another Ob ect of this invention is to provide a securing member adapted to engage a support, such as a pew, theater chair or the like, and having means for gripping a hat or like apparel.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a gripping member pivoted to the attaching member and which is capable of being folded into the attaching member, whereby the device may be readily and conveniently carried within a pocket or like place.
A still further object of this invention is the provision of a vest pocket hat holder of the above stated character, which shall be simple, durable and efficient, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
With these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure l is a plan view of a vest pocket hat holder constructed in accordance with my invention and illustrating the same in a folded position,
Fig. 2 is a similar view illustrating the device in an operative or unfolded position,
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the same.
Referring in detail to the drawings, the numeral 1 indicates a semi-circular attaching member constructed from resilient material and having one end bent to form a Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 25,1917.
straight shank 2, which is apertured to receive a rivet or like fastener. The other end of the attaching member 1 is curved as shown at i to permit the device to be readily hooked or passed over the edge of a pew, theater chair or the like.
A gripping member 5 is constructed from resilient material and of a single length, which is first bent into circular formation as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The ends of the material after being bent in circular formation are bent rearwardly upon themselves to form an attaching arm 6 and an actuating arm 8. The attaching arm 6 is bent to form a straight shank 9 that is apertured to receive the rivet or like fastener 3. The free end of the actuating arm 8 is bent to form a finger grip 10 for spreading the gripping member 5 so as to permit the same to receive a portion of a hat or like apparel. The gripping ends 11 of the gripping member 5 are enlarged and curved so as to readily grip a hat or like apparel without the danger of mutilating or injuring the same.
In operation, when it is desired to attach a hat or like apparel to a pew or theater chair, the securing member 1 is hooked or passed over the edge of said pew or theater chair and by pressing upon the finger grip 10, the gripping faces or jaws 11 are spread to permit the hat or like apparel to be inserted therebetween, thus supporting the hat or like apparel in a suspended position and within convenient reach of the owner.
When it is desired to place the device in a pocket or like place, the gripping member 5 is folded into. the securing member as shown in Fig. 1, providing a compact device, which will not occupy a large amount of space.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
A hat holder comprising a gripping member constructed from a single length of resilient material bent into circular formation, the ends of said material after being bent in circular formation being bent about the convolution of the circular portion to In testimony whereof I afiix my signature form an attaching arm and an actuating arm, in presence of two witnesses. a securing member pivoted to the attaching arm, and said actuating arm being bent to HENRY CLAYTON TATRO' form a finger grip for spreadingthe con- Witnesses:
volution of the circular member to receive a WALTER AFFOLTER,
wearing apparel. HAROLD BAILEY.
