PICTURE HANGER.. No. 589,945. Patented Sept. 14', 1897.
F4941 Ftyz Wit/@MES b er I ArronNErJf l UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE HENRY GROAT, OE BROOKLYN, NEW` YORK.
PICTURE-HANGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 589,945, dated September 14, 1897. Application filed February 9,1897. Serial Nc. 622,634. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern,.-
` Be it known that I, GEORGE HENRY GEoA'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Picture-I-Iaugersof which the following is a full and complete specification, such' as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to picture-hangers; and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which is simple in construction and operation, and bymeans of which picture -hooks may be quickly and easily connected with a molding or other support and pictureframes suspended therefrom.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by thel same numerals of reference in each of the views, and in whichy Figure 1 is a sectional end View of a strip of molding secured to a wall and adapted to support picture and other frames and showing also a side view of my improved picturehanger and the method of the operation thereof; Fig. 2, a front View of the construction shown in Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 a sectional side view of the hanger and showing a picturehook connected therewith. t
In the drawings forming part of this specification I have shown at 5 a strip of molding which is secured to a wall 6, and suspended from said molding 5 is a hook 7, which is adapted to support a picture-frame or other article, and in practice I provide a hanger which consists of a handle 8, which is provided at one end with a metal head 9, which Vis provided with a backwardly-directed portion 10, in which is formed a' slot 11, and which is also provided wi th upwardly and outwardly directed arms 12, the upper ends of which are provided with forks 13. Ihave also shown at 14 a part of a picture-frame, and in the operation of the device` one end of the hook? is passed through the slot 11, asshown by means of the handle S of the hanger thel said cord or chain may be connected with the hook 7, as will be readily understood.
This device is simple in construction and operation and may be employed in suspending mirrors, picture-frames,and various other articles from any suitable support and it will be apparent that changes in and modifications ofthe construction herein described may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The herein-describedhangerforpictureframes and other articles, the same comprising a handle, a head at one end of the handle on which are formed upwardly and outwardly directed arms having forks at their ends, said head being also provided with a transverse slot by means of which a hook may be suspended, substantially as shown and described.
2. The herein-described hanging device which comprises a handle as 8, a head, as 9, on one end of said handle, said head being provided with a backwardly-directed portion '10, in which is form ed a slot 11, said head being also provided with upwardly and outwardly directed arms 12, having forks at their ends, as 13, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 6th day ofV February, 1897. y
GEORGE HENRY GROA'I. Vitnesses:
C. GEEST, M. A. KNOWLEs.
