Corresponding and like parts are referred toin" the fo-llowingdescription and designated in'the several 'views of the drawings by like reference characters. i The wrench comprises a handle and an outer and an inner jaw, the latter being slidable along the length of the handle. The handle is of sectionalformation, the sections being of similar or like formation and each section comprising a bar 1 and a semi-cylindrical portion 2,-the latter having an inner rib 3 at its outer end which constitutes an element of'the swivel connection between the handle and the adjusting nut by means of which the inner jaw is moved. When the sections ofthe handle are assembled, the bar portions 1 are spaced'apart andextend in parallel relation, whereas the semi-cylindrical portions 2 come together and are secured in any manner, either by fastening-s ior by being welded. The fastenings 4 may consist of rivets, bolts or machine screws. The outer jaw 5 is fixed and comprises similar sections which are formed with the respective sections of the handle. A tongue and groove joint is formed between the sections comprising the jaw 5 to insure the strain on the jaw when the tool is in operation being uniformly sus tained by both sections. The tongue is designated by the numeral 6 and the groove by, the numeral 7 and these elements match when the sections of the jaw are assembled. Fastenings ,8, such as rivets, machinescrews orbolts, connect the sections of the .j awwhen the parts are placed together. I
The inner jaw 9 isslidable lengthwise of the handle towards and away from the outer fixed jaw. The jaw 9 has a shank 10 which is slidable between the bars l and into the cylindrical portion 1 of the handle. A threaded stem 11, forming a part of the shank 10, cooperates with a nut 12 which is disposed within the cylindrical portion of the handle and has a swivel joint connection upon its outer side to enable the hand to obtain a firm grip thereon whenrotating the nut 12 to adjust the jaw 9. Theinner'or head portion of the jaw 9 receives the bar portions 1 of the handle, whereby the jaw .is'braced so as to withstand-the strain .to
which it is subjected when the tool is in operation. The jaws 5 and 9 are relatively fixed, thatis, they have no pivotal movement, the outer jaw 5 being immovable and the inner jaw 9 adjustable. v
In the modification shown in Figure 6 and the detail views thereof, the general construction and arrangement of theltool corresponds with that herein before described, corresponding parts being designated by like reference characters The main difference resides in the innerjaw and its mounting, the same being pivoted and both jaws being disposed at a right angle to the length of the handle,,wh-ereas the corresponding aws in the formshown in Figure 1 are inclined to the handle.
The inner pivoted jaw 15 of the modificationisformed with a tongue 16 which is pivoted tothe shank 10, the forward end of which is cut away to receive the tongue 16. A pivot 17 passes through the over- Y lapping parts and pivotally connects them.
A spring 18 is interposed between the forward portion of the jaw 15 and the handle 1 and serves to hold the gripping jaw 15 pressed outwardly to grip a pipe or like article and enable said jaw to ratchet when oscillating the wrench to turn the' pipe or other work gripped between the two jaWs.

means located within the cylindrical portion of the handle for adjusting the inner jaw towards and away from the outer jaw.
2. A wrench comprising a handle consisting of similar sections; each including a bar and a semi-cylindrical portion, a fixed jaw at the outer end of the handle comprising complemental section's formed with therespective bars of the handle, an inner jaw i slidable between the bars comprisin .the
