(No Model.)
J. D. MGRAE. HOSEA CLAMP.
No'. 453,359. Patented June 2,1891.
UNITED STATES yPATENT OFFICE.
JOHN D. MORAE, OF BALDVINSVILLF., NEW YORK.
Hose-CLAMP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 453,359, dated June 2, 1891.
Application filed July 28,1890. Serial No. 360,163. (No model.)
To LZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN D. MCRAE, of Baldwinsville, in the county of Onondaga, in the State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hose-Clamps, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying' drawings, is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to hose-clamps.
' My object is to provide a hose-clamp for the purposeof coupling pieces of hose tof gether by clamping them toa common metallic tube, or for the purpose of securing the end of the hose to the hose-nozzle, simpleand cheap of construction, and of great utility.
My invention consists of the several novel features of construction and operation hereinafter described, and specifically set forth in the claim, hereto annexed.
It is constructed as follows, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a side elevation of a piece of the hose secured by my clamp to a metallic coupling-tube. Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof, showing the clamping-hose and means for securing them together. Fig. 3 is a side view of the clamp complete detached. Fig. 4. is a vertical section thereof. Fig. 5 'is a side elevation of the clamping-wire detached. Fig. 6 is a top plan view thereof. Fig. 7 is an isometrical elevation of one of the clamp-heads. Fig. 8 is a view of its inner face, showing a recess for the reception of the twisted ends of the clamping-wire.
Similar letters and figures of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the hose.
B is a metallic coupling-section or end of a hose-nozzle, upon one end of which the hose is secured by the clamp, being also provided with corrugations l, over which the hose fits. The clamping-band 2 consists of a single wire bent centrally, so as to create a cross-bar, and extending thence at right angles to a cross-bar formed at the other end by bending the ends of the wires inwardly toward each other, meeting substantially midway, then twisted together andthe twisted ends 3 standing at about a right angle to these inwardly-bent portions, which constitute the cross-bar at the other end of the loop thus created. This loop is then bent to substantially the circle of the exterior of the hose, the loop thus forming a double band of outer end of the body, and the outer face is` suitably recessed or countersunk to receive a screw or bolt head or a nut; also, one head is provided with a recess 5 extending back in the cavity of the base longitudinally and adapted to receive the twisted ends of the wire. The heads are inserted into the band, so that each cross-bar fits in the groove across the inner face ofthe body, and the wire rings extend back over the anges 6 on both sides, and 7 is a bolt inserted through the heads, and when this is screwed up the cross-bars of the band are drawn in toward each other, and the twisted ends of the wire are forced still farther into the recess in the head, and most of this twist will lie upon the hose and constitute a band across the intervening space between the heads.
It will thus be seen that I create a double clamping-band from a single piece of wire and tighten the whole by a single bolt.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Let-ters Patent, is-
A wire clamping-band composed of a single piece of wire bent to form a rectangle and having the ends of the wire secured together in one of the end bars of the rectangle and projecting beyond it, in combination with concaved clamping heads detachably connected to the end bars of the rectangle and grooved to receive the ends of the wire, and means for securing the heads together.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 23d day of July, 1890.
JOHN D. MORAE.
