DEVICE FOR SECURING BRISTLES IN BRUSHES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 725,269, dated April 14, 1903. Application filed October 30, 1902. Serial No. 129,478. (No model.)
To all whont it may concern:
Be it known that 1, PAUL MGBIUS, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, and a resident of Erlangen, Bavaria, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Securing Bristles in Brushes, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to metallic clamping devices designed to be inserted, together with the bristles, in an opening in the brush block or head and by compression therein firmly secure the bristles in position.
The invention is -illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a sectional view of a portion of a brush-block, showing the bristles and fastening devices in place prior to the device being forced down to clamp the bristles in place. Fig. 2 is a similar View showing the device as compressed or forced down to engage the walls of the opening in the block and secure the bristles therein. Figs. 3 and i are varied views of the modifications.
In the drawings, a designates the bunch of bristles, and 1) brush head or block, having an opening 9 to receive the bunch of bristles.
d represents the clamping or holding devices, which comprise upper and lower crossbands d connected by elbow-shaped bands (i the angles of which extend outwardly in opposite directions.
In using the device the bunch of bristles is placed within the bands and the assembled parts inserted in the hole g, as done in Fig. 1. The upper band (1 is then forced downwardly by a suit-able device, (not shown,) whereby the sharp points of the elbow-shaped bands are forced outwardlyinto engagement with the walls of the opening, as shown in Fig. 2.
Instead of having only a single" pair: of elbows between the cross-bands two elbows 61 may be, as shown in Fig. 3, connected at the center, or, if desired, the central section may be omitted, as shown in Fig. 4 at 61 Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- A device for securing bristles in brushheads, comprising upper and lower cross members adapted to encircle a bunch of bristles and angular members connecting said cross members, substantially as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto hand in presence of two witnesses.
PAUL MOBIUS.
Set my Witnesses OSCAR BocK, EMIL KRANZLEIN.
