Description

UN ITEI) STATES PATENT OFFICE,
BERNARD OINIHBAND, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO E. GOLDMAN @s CO., INC., OF CHICAGO. ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION OF ILLINOIS.
BOTTLE-WASHER BRUSH.
Specification of Letters Patent,
Patented May 14, 1907.
Application tiled January 25, 1906. Serial No. 297,811.
To all when@ 11i #mty concern:
Be it known that I BERNARD GonnnANn, o. citizen of the vUnited States, residing at Chicago7 in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented :t new end useful Improvement in BmtleNVesher Brushes, ol' which tho following is s, specilicetion.
Mfr intention relates to en improvement on the device forming the sul'iject of Letters Patent Number 818,086, granted to me April 17, 1906, for improvement in bottle-Weeber brushes.
In the construction therein shown and described the brush is eerried on s. stem ineintained dering rotation in rigid axial position relative to the spindle which carries it, so tluit when the ends of the brushdiber weer sway by the use of the brush and its diameter thus deereeses, the brush-fiber foils to contact with the surface of the inner side of the bottle to be scoured.
My object is to provide e brush, held in place on the spindle by the ineens set forth in the above-mentioned application, which shell be adapted to rotate with the spindle and swine about its axial center, thus segmenting the scouring function of the brush and prolonging its usefulness.
In the eeoonipenying drawing, Figure l a. View in elevation, exaggerated beyond actuel size, of s brush-device embodying my improvement; and Fig. 2, s perspeetive View, also exaggerated beyond actuel size, showing the parts involved in rny improvenient in disassocieted relstion reedj: to be assembled for fastening the brusli=heed to a socket which is adapted to be fastened on the upper end of a brush-spindle.
A is the brush-heed, comprising brushber B end o stem C on whiclrthe brush-fiber is fastened. The stern is formed of e length of wire. bent upon itself to provide e loop or eye a with the ends twisted spirally together.
The brush-fiber is fastened to the stem between the spirslly twisted sections of the wire. Between the ends of the brnsh-iiber it is bound, es by Wiring at a, about the stein to contract the upper section into o narrower buneh l) `presenting the brush-fiber at sharper angles tothe stein for scouring the interior of the bottom of s bottle, While the lower bunch la* is more expended, having the brush-'liber extending more nearly perpendioulsrly to the stein i' or scouring the inner surleoe of the bottlc-Well.
I) is en internally-threeded socket or heed adapted to be secured upon the upper end u of the aforesaid rotatable and reeiproeoblo spindle {not shown) of e bottle-washing meehine. The upper end of the head I) is provided with s diznnetrical recess d end hes eX- tending from it en externally screw-threaded neuk If split longitudinally to divide it into siiniier sections separated from eeeh other by e slot di coincident with and of the treneverse width of the recess d.
E is e yoke of greater length than the neck Ill engaging the eye a and provided with out- Wer llytuir11ed feet AtF is represented :L voller, preferably slum n s nuil longer than the screw-threaded portion I) of the spindle end adopted to screw upon the nook D1.
To assemble the ports;F the stein is adjusted on the heed D by introdneing the yoke E through the pesssge or slot d1 to seat the yoke et its feet e in the recess d. Thereupon the nut F is screwed u on the neel against the feet e in the recess t ereby clamping the yoke in pisse. The coniinernent of the brush-head on the spindle is thus in the nature of e swivel-connection enebling the heed to swing about theQuXiel center of the spindle during its rotetion. It will thus be seen that the Wearing sway of the ends of the brush-ber does Vnot impair the function of the brush es its flexible eonneetion with the spindle esuses the brush-fiber to Contact with the interior side wells of the bottle to be scoured notwithstanding sue-h weer. The construction, moreover, facilitates adjustment of the parts together and their separation.
What I elsirn as new end desire to secure by Letters Potent isl. In combination, o stein provided on one end with brush-liber end on its o osito end with sin oye, e spindle-end prevu ed in its top with a recess end having s slotted noch extending from it, e yoke having its ends bent outwardly to resentfeet ed opted to be inserted thro ugh seid3 slotted neel( and seat in said recess, and s coller on said neck clamping seid feet in said recessv1 said yoke being loosely eonneeted With the brush-stern et its eye to adept the brush to swing freely, in rotating it, about the axis of the spindle.
