CUFF-HOLDER.

SPECIFICATION forming' part of Letters Patent No. 452,870, dated May 26, 1891. 'Application filed September '10, 1890. Serial No. 364,558. (No model.)

To all whom it may concer'n;

Be it known that I, MOSES G. OOOK, of Lynn, county of Essex, State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cuff-Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the drawings accompanying and forming a part hereof, in which- Figure 1 is a vertical section lengthwise of a cuff and the end of a coat-sleeve to which the cuff is attached, and showing my im proved cuff-holder and the manner in which it is eniployed. Fig. 2 is a plan view of my device detached, and showing a stud in cross-section. Fig. 3 is a central Vertical section lengthwise of Fig. 2.

My invention has for its object t-o provide a cuff-holder which may be easily applied or removed, and which will serve to hold a cuff in position at the end of a coat-sleeve and in such manner that the cuff may be adjusted so that a larger or smaller portion of it will show, as the wearer may desire; and it consists in the device hereinafter described, and which is more particularly pointed out in the claim which is appended hereto, and which forms a part hereof.

A is a plate, preferably of metal, of suitable size and shape. To this plate are secured in any suitable manner the pieces of Wire b c, which throughout the middle portion are bent, as shown at d, to form a series of receptacles or spaces g for the shank of a common stud, such as is shown at f, Figs. 2 and 3. The peces b c of Wire are in factpreferably formed of one piece of wire, which is bent on itself. The wires b o are secured. at either end to the plate A, preferably by forming a lip at either end thereof, bending said lip over the wires, as shown at Fig. 3, and soldering the wires thereto. As will be obvious, the number of spaces g for the shank of the stud may be varied. Byincreasingthenumberof saidspaces a greater adjustment of the cuff may beobtained-that is, a larger portion of the cuff may be made to show beyond the end of the coatsleeve. At one end of the device the wires b c fiare outwardly, as shown at h, Fig. 2, forming a mouth or guideway, which enables the stud which is in the cuff to be more readily inserted in the hold er when the cuff is put on. The plate A is provided with a pin 7a, of ordinary construction, by which it is secured in place.

The manner of using the holder is as follows: The holder is secured inside the sleeve J of the garment at a proper distance from the end, as shown, Fig. 1. The studfis inserted in the cuff K, preferably at the opposite end thereof from the cuff-button. VVhen the cuff is put on, it is slipped over the hand of the wearer and the studdirected into the mouth hof the holder. The cuff is then pressed backwardly, the wires b o springing apart and allowing the shank ofthe stud to snap into the first space g. If too much of the cuff shows, it is pressed farther back, until the shank of the stud is in that one of the spaces g rearwardly of the first space which allows the desired portion of cuff to show. My holder may be reaclily applied without changing or damaging either the coat-sleeve or cuff. lt enables the cuff to be secured at exaotly the proper point and in such manner that when 'the coat is removed the cuff is removed with it. For many persons whose work is apt to soil their clothes this is an advantage. i

What I claim is- The herein-described cuff-holder, consisting of the plate A, provided with an attaching-pin at the back thereof, and having on its opposite side substantially parallel wires attached to the ends of the said plate, and having a se- I'ies of serpentine bends to form between them the spaces g, each of which is adapted to receive the shank of a stud on the cuff, said wires beingbent to form the fiaring month h, to guide the stud into said spaces, substantially as set forth.
