UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES C. CLARK, OF MERIDEN, CONNECTICUT.
CHECKREIN-LOOP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 452,563, dated May 19, 1891.
Application filed March 2, 1891. Serial No. 383.384. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, CHARLES C. CLARK, of Meriden, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Checkrein-Loops; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, ill- Figure 1, a perspective View of a checkreinloop constructed in accordance with myinvention; Fig. 2, a view thereof, partly in section and partly in elevation; Fig. 3, a view of the article in central Section on the line a b of Fig. 2.
My invention relates to an improvementin checkrein-loops, the object being to provide for this purpose a simple and effective device.
YVith these ends in view my invention consists in the combination, with a loop having four projecting retaining-lugs arranged in two pairs, respectively located opposite each other, of an elastic band encircling the loop and located between the said lugs, which retain it in place.
My improved checkrein-loop A is cast in one piece of metal, and has a circular central projection B and four retaining-lugs C, which are arranged in two pairs, respectively located opposite each other, and giving to the loop an oblong form. Theselugs are suificiently separated to receive between them and retain in place an elastic band D, preferably made of rubber, and extending across the central opening B of the loop and so far closing the same that the loop cannot be passed over the water-hook Without the engagement of the band therewith, whereby the loop is prevented from accidentally coming off from the said hook. hen the bands get stretched so as to be in effective, they may be easily replaced.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A checkrein-loop constructed with four projecting retaining-lugs arranged in two pairs, which are respectively located opposite each other, and an elastic band encircling the loop and located between the said lugs, which retain it in place, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHARLES C. CLARK.
