FASTENING DEVICE FOR MENS GARTERS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed July 12, 1907.
Patented March 17, 1908.
Serial No. 383,416.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RoswELL A. MOORE, Jr., a citizen of the United States, residing at Berlin, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fastening Devices for Mens Garters; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in
Figure 1 a broken view in front elevation of a mans garter containing a corner-plate constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 a detached front view of the corner-plate. Fig. 3 a reverse view thereof. Fig. 4 a detached view of the hook. Fig. 5 an edge view thereof. Fig. 6 a sectional view of the corner-plate and hook as combined.
My invention relates to an in'lprovement in fastening devices for mens garters, the object being to provide for the better retention of the hook as well as to prevent it from coming in contact with the fabric or the skin.
\Vith these ends in view my invention consists in certain details of construction and combination of parts as will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In carrying out my invention as herein shown, I employ a corner-plate 2 made of a single piece of sheet-metal and having a single straightsided upper slot 3 and a single straight-sided lower slot 4 located at less than a right angle to each other and respectively designed for the reception of the fixed end of the garter webbing 5 and the upper end of the short loop 6 of webbing employed for the supension of the clasp 7 which may be of any approved construction.
The central portion of the corner-plate 2 is struck up from the back to form a circular boss 8 the center of which is partially detached by a nearly circular cut 9 and set downward in a plane parallel with the plane of the said plate so as to form a circular guard-plate 10 connected with the body of the corner-plate by a short bent arm 11, resulting in the production of a nearly circular hook-receiving opening 12 located below and concentric with the said boss 8. W'hen the inwardly turned beak of the hook 13 is hooked over the boss 8 it engages with the guardplate 10 which not only helps to prevent it from being accidentally disengaged from the corner-plate 2, but also prevents it from coming in contact with the fabric or skin. The beak of the hook enters the said opening 12 and is protected by the flange 14, which is concentric with the segmental opening 12. The said hook 13 forms a part of an eye 15 to which the free end of the garter webbing 5 is attached. 7
I claim 1- 1. In a fastening device for mens garters, the combination with a hook-member formed with a hook the beak of which is turned in wardly, of a corner-plate formed with an in tegral guard-plate set inward in a plane par allel with it and separated from it by a seg- I mental opening which is adapted to receive the beak of the hook, the said corner-plate being also formed with an inwardly turned flange concentric with the said opening and standing adjacent to the edge of the beak of the hook.
2. In a fastening device for mens garters, the combination with a hook-member formed with a hook the beak of which is turned in wardly, of a corner-plate having a centrally arranged circular boss and a substantially circular guard-plate located below the said boss in a plane parallel with the plane of the body of the corner-plate and separated from the said boss by a substantially circular openin which is adapted to receive the inwardly. turned beak of the said hook which engages with the said guard-plate.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ROSIVEIIL A. MOORE, JR.
