VALTER H. BAGSHAVV, OF LOWELL, MASSACHUSETTS.
COMB.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 452,156, dated May 12, 1891. Application filed October 13,1890- Serial No. 367,937. (No model.)
To LZ wil/0m, it 71u14; concern;
Be it known that I, W'ALTER H. BAGSHAW, of Lowell, in the county of Middlesex, State of llassachusettshhave invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combs, of which the following is a description sufficiently full, clear, and exact to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which said invention appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming'part of this specification, in Which- Figure l is an elevation of my improved toilet-comb attached to the supporting-chain, and Fig. 2 a side elevation of the same, show'- ing a modification in the formation of the slot.
Like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the different gures of the drawings.
My invention relates especially to toiletcombs which are adapted to be secured to a cord or chain 'in convenient position for use before a looking-glass; and it consists in certain novel features hereinafter fully set forth and claimed, the object being to produce a simpler, cheaper, and more efcctive device of this character than now in ordinary use.
The nature and operation of the improvement will be readily understood by all conversant with such matters from the following explanation.
In the drawings, A represents the comb considered as a whole. The comb is preferably constructed of metal, and comprises a back (l, in which parallel metallic teeth f are secured in the usual manner. A longitudinally-ar ranged rod gis secured to the back d, the ends of said rod being bent downward and passed through the extreme ends of the comb-back, as shownby dotted lines i in Iiigy l. This forms a slot-or groove m on the back of the comb. The chain B is secured by aring p on the rod g and is fitted to slide thereon, the opposite end of the chain being attached to a screw-eye q, disposed in any convenient position. cord,as described, it will readily slip through the ring p, so that it may be conveniently used with either hand, the ring falling readily to the lower end ot' the slot as the comb is By attaching the comb to a chain or passed from one side of the person to the other. 5o
In Fig. 2 the slot m is formed longitudinallyin the back CZ of the comb, obvia-ting the necessity of employing the rod g.
Having thus explained my invention, what I claim is l. 4A toilet-comb provided with a longitudinal slot in its back, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a toilet-comb, a rod arranged longitudinally and secured byits ends to theback of said comb, forming a slotl for receiving an attaching-ring, substantially as described.
3. The comb A, provided with the slot m, in combination with the ring p, fitted to slide in said slot, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
4. The colnb A, in combination with the rod g, ring 19, and chain B, arranged substan tially as described.
VALTER H. BAGSHAV.
