SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 450,281, dated April 14, 1891.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE WASHINGTON BAKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oolmesneihin the county of Tyler and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Plow, of which the following is a specification.

This invention has relation to improvements in plows, and has special reference to a colter attachment for the same.

The objects of the invention are to provide a reversible colter adapted to be applied to any style of plow-such as shovel-plows, half or turning shovels, bull-tongue, or other forms of plows, and also to provide a cheap and convenient means of attaching and detaching the same.

Vith the above objects in view the invention consists in certain features of. construction hereinafter specified, and particularly pointed out in the'claims.

Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective of an ordinary bull-tongue plow provided with a colter constructedin accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section of the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective in detail of the attach ment.

Like numerals of reference indicate like parts in all the figures.

1 designates the plow-beam, from which depends the usual standard 2, said standards at its lower front end being provided with a transverse recess 3, which receives the upper end of, in thisinstance, abull-tongue plow 4, which latter is held in position by the usual bolts 5. Through the upper end of the plow and the standard there extends a headed bolt or lug 0, the head 7 of which extends out from the face of the plow.

8 designates a clamping-bracket, which consists of a metal plate, bent at each side of its center upon itself to form a base 9, and above its center rebent at a right angle to the base to form opposite jaws 10. The lower end of the base at its rear side is provided with a recess or notch 12, adapted to fit the shank of the bolt 6 and to have its edges within its base overlapped by the head 7 of the bolt. The two jaws are connected at their centers by a removable bolt 13.

14 designates the reversible colter, which is of crescent shape and provided with opposite cutting-heads 15. The colter is provided with a longitudinal slot 16 at one side of its center, so that various degrees of adjustment may be secured. To attach the colter, it is simply necessary to introduce the same between the jaws 10,passing the bolt 13 through the slot, adjust the cotter, and tighten the bolt. Now by introducing the slot 12 over the head 7 of the bolt 6 the oolter is in position for use.

Having described my invention, What I claim is 1. The combination, with the standard, the share bolted thereto, and the headed bolt extending from the share, of the bracket 9, formed of light metal, bent at each side of its center to form a base and rebent at a right angle to its base to form opposite clampingjaWs, the base being provided with an oblong slotdesigned to take over the headed bolt of the share, and the reversible substantially crescent-shaped colter14,having aslot formed therein at one side of its center, said colter being mounted between the jaws and passed through by the bolt, substantially as specified.

2. The combinati0n,with the stan dard,of the share bolted thereto, the headedbolt extending from the share of the bracket 9, designed to take over the headed bolt of the share, and the reversible substantially crescent-shaped colter 14, having a slot formedtherein at one side of its center, said colter being mounted between the jaws and passed through by the bolt, substantially as specified.
