SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 446,538, dated February 17, 1891.
Application filed September 26, 1890. Serial No. 366,261. (No model.
To all whom it 77mg/ concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES RoBBnn'r GRAVES REEVES, a Citizen ofthe United States, residing at McComb eit v,in the county ot' Pike and State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cultivators; and I do declare the following,r to be a full, clear, and exact description ot the iuvention, such as will enable others skilled. in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being.;` had to the aceonipanying drawings, and to the letters of refer ence marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure l is a top view. Fig. 2 view. Fig. 3 is a section on line 3 Fit. 4 is a detail view.
This invention relates to improven'ients in ouitivators, and has for its object the production ot' a eultivator whereof the shares will always be at the proper angle, as set forth.
The invention consists in the eonstruction hereinafter set forth.
In the annexed drawings, the letter A indicates the eultivator-beam, to the rear end of which are pivoted the handles B B. Secured to the top of the beam between these handles is a curved bar C, having the teeth d on eaeh side. Passing under the bar C and through the handles is the bolt h. By this arrangement the handles can be adjusted to any position and clamped against the teeth by drawing on the bolt l). The sides of the handles being; smooth, the teeth bite into the wood. The shares cl are secured to the feet of the standards D, the upper ends d of the latter being horizontal.
is a side f3, Fig. i.
Passing down through the beam A is a bolt E, the lower end e of which rests in a slotf in a curved bar F. This bar E is secured to a main plate G. This plate G has a number of round holes g, and the same number of shares are to be used. The share-standards are secured by bolts h passing up through them and through the holes and slots. After the rear bolts pass through the slots g they are secured to a strip Iil,wl1ieh is pivoted to the beam A. The bolts of one of the share-standards take into the cultiVator-beam, and there by secure the plate and standards to the beam. The slotfis to be of a length determined by the amount of desired play to be given the shares.
It will be seen that in this device the plate carrying` the sharestandards plays around the bolt E, and that all the shares 'take the same angle. No matter what position the beam may be given, the shares always come to the proper angle.
Havingv thus described my invention, what I Claim is- The eombinationof the shares and their standards, the main plate G, to which the standards are pivoted, such plate having the slots iu the rear of the pivots ot the standards, the beam A, the strip I-I, pivoted to the beam, and bolts passing,` through the slots and securing the rear ends of the standards to the strip Il, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES ROBBERT GRAVES REEVES.
